Summary

 

Silicon Valley International School (INTL) seeks a full-time (40 hours/week) Social Emotional Support Specialist for our Cohn Campus (K-5th Grade) for an immediate start day. This role is to support Student Life for our Elementary-aged students and is primarily focused on student behavior outside of the classroom (recesses, lunch, after-school care, camps)

The SEL Support Specialist should enjoy working with students from Kindergarten to 5th grade. They must demonstrate commitment to INTL’s mission and the population we serve. They must also be responsible, self-motivated, friendly, willing to work with a team of colleagues, and adaptable to a working environment with different cultures.

The hourly rate is based on related years of work experience and/or a combination of formal education. This position is considered non-exempt, hourly, and benefited; the salary range is $30.00 (STP-1) to $42.00 (STP-20). This position will report directly to the Elementary School Assistant Principal.
 

Responsibilities: :

  • The Social-Emotional Support Specialist provides direct support to children during all recesses, lunches, after school, in class and during camps by teaching social-emotional skills and supporting children with challenging behavior
  • Monitor student progress with behavioral techniques and communicate this information to the classroom teachers, dean of students and Elementary School Assistant Principal
  • Lead SEL lessons and character values lessons to students
  • Build rapport with students and support student behavior outside the classroom with a positive approach  
  • Provide direct one-on-one and group support to children by teaching social-emotional skills, modeling strategies for colleagues, and supporting children when they engage in behaviors that can be challenging to some adults
  • Record and analyze data relating to children’s behavior and skill-building
  • This position works collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and our Student Services team to support children’s learning and safety
  • Full time 40 hours per week. Hours ( 8:30 -5:30 pm)

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years experience working with children
  • Associate’s Degree or higher,  in Special Education, Education, Child Development, Social Work, Psychology, or a closely-related field.
  • Ability to work in a team setting
  • Ability to analyze behavior, collaborate with adults, and develop positive relationships with students
  • Possess skills in data collection, development of effective intervention plans, and implementation of positive behavior interventions and supports
  • Evidence of experience and participation in professional development that supports the behavior development in students
  • Fluency in English for collaboration with colleagues and communication with students
  • Bilingual applicants highly enough to apply  [preferably in either French, Chinese, or German]

Working Conditions

  • Good general health, physical stamina, and emotional stability are essential
  • Ability to hear within normal range and communicate effectively in person or via telephone in a manner that can be understood by those with whom the person is speaking, including a diverse population
  • Ability to move quickly to address emergency or potentially dangerous situations
  • Ability to move about the building and the organization as needed
  • Must be able to work outdoors in various types of weather conditions
  • On occasion, must lift up to 35 lbs

Expectations for Mini-Camp and Summer Camp

Employees are expected to work mini and summer camps (6 weeks out of 9). During summer care and mini-camp, The SEL Support Specialist is expected to lead and support SEL learning and student behavior. The Camp leader [Director of Academic Enrichment] may assign other duties/ responsibilities per the operational needs of the camps and enrichment programs.
