What are the responsibilities and job description for the Silk Screen Press Operator position at Silk Screen Shirts, Inc.?
Job Summary
As a Press Operator, you will be essential in the manufacturing process, responsible for operating and maintaining press machinery to produce high-quality products. Reporting to the Production Supervisor, you will utilize your core skills in screen printer set-ups and operations. Additionally, your relevant experience in quality control and materials handling will contribute to maintaining high standards in our manufacturing facility. 1) Responsibilities:
a) Sets up each job following the directions and notes on the tech pack if applicable.
b) When ready, a team member takes a garment to the floor manager for approval before starting each new colorway.
c) Checks quality of the job throughout the run to ensure all quality requirements meet S.S.S. standards.
d) Watches screens to make they don’t run out of ink throughout each run to avoid misprints.
e) Keeps focus and direction of the team to meet speed and quality standards set by SSS for each run.
f) Helps track inventory of supplies and lets the Floor Manager know when supplies are running low to re-order, so we never completely run out of a needed supply or tool.
2) Team Leader: The operator is the team leader for each press and helps coordinate the helper and the catcher.
a) Makes sure that the Helper is on top of their responsibilities during the set-up process and throughout the run.
i) Makes sure the correct pantone shade of ink and the requested stiffness of squeegee are placed at the proper screen.
ii) Has a usable print rags with assorted colors.
iii) Used ink buckets from the previous job are cleaned and returned to the ink department.
b) Makes sure the Catcher is on top of their responsibilities.
i) Makes sure the goods are all staged complete and correctly by colorway and size.
ii) Helps keep an inventory of assorted and usable print rags.
iii) Ink buckets are cleaned and returned to the ink department when they are not in use.
c) Remember this is not a manager position, this is a team leader. They are to help make sure that the members of the team are working with the same common goal not discipline other members. Should an issue arise please have a manager help resolve the situation.
3) Speed of the Runs:
a) Ensure that everything needed is prepared and ready before it is needed (screens, inks, print rags, goods, squeegees etc.)
b) Once the job is approved the press runs as quickly as possible until the job is completed.
c) Limit the amount of downtime during a run, be proactive about checking the amount of inks in the screens and aware how much they will use per job.
d) Be aware of what time the job started and when it the job is expected to be completed and off the press.
4) Any duties assigned by your supervisor that are for the benefit of the S.S.S. and are reasonable and safe.
5) Safety / Maintenance:
a) Ensures everyone on the floor is acting safely either S.S.S. employee or customer on the floor.
b) Maintains a clean press area and directs helper and catcher to do the same.
c) Ensures maintenance schedule is kept up on and problems with equipment are addressed with Assistant Floor Supervisor or Production Manager
d) At 2:15 every day production is to shut down and the remainder of the day is spent cleaning up the warehouse. Not talking and packing up personal items.
6) Qualifications:
a) Two years’ experience working with screen printing machinery in a factory setting is preferred but not mandatory. Please include prior experience including shop names in your application.

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
