Job Description
The Medical Technologist must promote good public relations for the department and Northwest Regional Medical Center while maintaining patient/customer confidentiality. Medical Technologists are responsible for:
- Performs manual and automated routine blood tests.
- Prepares specimens for microscope examination.
- Operates laboratory equipment including centrifuges, dry bath incubators, and blood bank refrigerators.
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Performs a variety of tasks. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
- Typically reports to supervisor or manager.
- Requires graduation from an accredited MT/MLT program and passing a national exam given by the Board of Registry of the American Society for Clinical Pathology, American Medical Technology, or HEW.
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
- Associates or Bachelors degree in Medical Laboratory Science required
- 1-5 years experience in field or related area
- ASCP preferred
- Able to meet sensory requirements of the job.
- Capable of performing all laboratory tests and related calculations.
- Able to participate in laboratory Quality Assurance Program
- Attention to detail and concentration
- Ability to work in fast-paced, ever-changing environment
