Position Summary:
Silva Lux Harvest, located in the Friendswood/Pearland area, is seeking a dedicated volunteer to launch and manage our nonprofit educational program. This role involves building the program from the ground up, recruiting volunteer teachers, and coordinating engaging, hands-on sustainable agriculture workshops. Our initiative, “Learn With SilvaLux Harvests,” leverages state-of-the-art hydroponic technology to provide fresh, pesticide-free produce while teaching innovative farming practices, healthy eating, and sustainability.

Our established nonprofit workshop curriculum serves as a base guide for teaching various age groups directly, providing invaluable hands-on learning experiences to inspire the next generation of farmers and scientists.
Key Responsibilities:
Education & Outreach:
- Develop and lead engaging, hands-on hydroponic farming lessons for children of various age groups.
- Create interactive curricula that incorporate STEM principles and sustainability concepts.
- Maintain a welcoming and inclusive learning environment that encourages curiosity and exploration.
- Collaborate with program leadership to define goals, establish class schedules, and tailor the curriculum to meet community needs.
- Recruit, screen, and onboard volunteer teachers for diverse grade levels, ensuring high-quality instruction and mentorship.
Hydroponic System Management:
- Oversee the setup, maintenance, and optimization of hydroponic growing systems.
- Ensure plants thrive through proper nutrient management and pest control measures.
- Introduce participants to various hydroponic techniques, including deep water culture, NFT, and aeroponics, to broaden their understanding of controlled environment agriculture.
Grant Writing & Administration:
- Identify funding opportunities to support educational and urban farming initiatives.
- Write and submit grant proposals to secure funding for projects, equipment, and program expansion.
- Manage awarded grants by ensuring compliance with requirements and proper allocation of funds.
- Maintain detailed records and reports for funders, tracking program impact and outcomes.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with local schools, community organizations, and educational experts to enrich program content and expand outreach.
- Assist in marketing and promotional efforts to raise program awareness through digital media and community events.
- Once the curriculum is up and running and the nonprofit starts generating revenue through donations, collaborate with leadership to develop and implement a payment structure for teachers.
