Silver Bay Seafoods is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Buyer to join our Purchasing team. The Buyer will be responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and negotiating contracts for goods and services required by the organization to support our seafood processing facilities across Alaska, Washington, and California. A successful candidate will have a keen eye for detail, be able to work in a fast-paced environment and be able to work collaboratively with various departments to ensure that procurement needs are met efficiently, on time and cost-effective.
To ensure success as a Buyer at Silver Bay Seafoods, you should be analytically minded and possess excellent negotiating skills to secure the best prices according to budget. Knowledge of sales and marketing principles is advantageous.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the position include the following:
- Source, select, and negotiate with suppliers for the purchase of goods and services.
- Input and monitor orders and POs through Coupa procurement system.
- Analyze market trends and apply this knowledge to make insightful buying decisions and identify opportunities for cost savings.
- Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure reliable and timely delivery of goods and services.
- Collaborate with internal departments to understand their purchasing needs and develop procurement strategies that align with organizational goals.
- Prepare, maintain, and share accurate records and reports of purchases, pricing, and delivery information. Assess the quality of stock received and escalate any discrepancies to suppliers and management.
- Communicate proactive updates to operations and leadership of order issues, delays and purchasing trends.
- Ensure compliance with organizational purchasing policies and procedures.
- Resolve supplier-related issues and conflicts in a timely and effective manner.
- Work closely with accounting to resolve discrepancies between PO and invoice pricing and order details.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is preferred.
- 1-3 years’ experience in Purchasing/Supply Chain as a Buyer or in a similar role.
- Previous experience with Alaska Seafood Industry, food manufacturing or networks is a Huge Plus.
- Knowledge of/or ability to quickly grasp data analytics and software programs with a strong background in ERP, WMS, and supply chain management technology.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and supply chain or procurement software, with aptitude to learn new software and systems.
Work Environment and Schedule
This position is for our Seattle, WA corporate office. Open to hybrid (for right candidate), would require at least 3 days per week in office.
Physical Demands
While performing the essential function and job duties associated with the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
Mental Activities
The employee is frequently required to use interpersonal and teamwork skills. The employee needs to be able to discern details on timesheets and reconcile appropriate calculations. The employee needs to regularly demonstrate attention to detail. The employee is occasionally required to use creativity, independent judgment, discretion, and problem analysis.
Salary Disclosure
The typical base pay range for this role is $58,000 -$65,000 per year. Individual base pay depends on various factors, in addition to primary work location, such as complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills.
