Summary
The cannery machinist works directly for the Cannery Supervisor and assists them in their daily tasks. The incumbent helps to ensure GMP and safety policies and ensures the smooth efficient operation of the department and sets an example for the department staff in work ethic, safety protocol, and attitude.

Essential Functions/Qualifications
The responsibilities of the position include the following:
- Assist with cannery production
- Attendance and punctuality is vital.
- Enforce safety and sanitation policies/standards.
- Ensure all equipment is set up and running properly.
- Take preventative measures to avoid production set-backs.
- Timely and regular attendance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Competencies
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following functional and interpersonal competencies:
Functional
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and Can Line Lead rev 2/28/18 decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Interpersonal
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred but not required; 3 to 6 months of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Work Environment and Schedule
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Physical Demands
Employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. Employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
Mental Activities
Excellent in working as a team with good work ethics, good decision-making skills and is occasionally required to use interpersonal skills, mentoring, problem analysis, training and supervision skills. Able to multitask in a very stressful and fast pace work environment. Pay attention to details and have a high level of accuracy, be flexible and stress resistant. The employee will occasionally be required to exercise independent judgment and use discretion.
