Position Summary: This dual role position coordinates Institutional Review Board and Continuing Medical Educational (CME) activities for Silver Cross Hospital and Medical Center. The position is responsible for providing guidance and administrative support to the IRB that review human subjects’ research. The individual provides continuing medical education to physicians and staff in accordance with Illinois State Medical Society (ISMS) and Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
IRB Coordination:
- Provides advice and assistance to investigators/research coordinators regarding IRB requirements of research applications/submissions.
- Must possess current knowledge of federal, state and local regulations pertaining to the conduct of research and research compliance, such as Office for Human Subject Protections (OHRP), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the State of Illinois, and other regulatory agencies as applicable.
- Screens submissions for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulations and/or institutional policies.
- Serves as a resource to guide IRB members on federal and state regulations for human subject research.
- Assists IRB Chair with onboarding and training IRB members according to IRB policies.
- Facilitates review and approval for emergency use, compassionate use, or unique situations.
- Prepares agenda, meeting materials for distribution to IRB members and facilitate IRB meetings.
- Prepares meeting minutes for review and distribution.
- Generates all board letters via the IRB database and distributes IRB decisions/letters to investigators in a timely manner.
- Maintains IRB member rosters.
- Manages IRB database.
- Follows-up with all previously approved research, send reminder for renewal / closure as needed.
- Assists IRB Chair with upkeep and maintenance of IRB Policies and Procedures in accordance with respective regulatory agency criteria.
- Other duties as assigned.
CME Program Coordination:
- Maintains current knowledge with ISMS, ACCME, and AMA PRA standards.
- Works with the CME Medical Director and CME Committee to develop, plan, implement and evaluate educational activities for the medical staff.
- Works in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams of external and internal individuals.
- Coordinates multiple projects simultaneously and sets appropriate priorities.
- Participates in development, revision, and review of continuing medical education policies and procedures per AMA PRA and ACCME accreditation requirements.
- Ensures all required documentation for ISMS accreditation is maintained in the appropriate files and tracking systems.
- Participates / facilitates the accreditation application process and survey in collaboration with the CME Committee.
- Effectively plans for events / meetings, including coordinating with Marketing to promote events.
- Actively participates in marketing continuing medical education programs to the medical staff.
- Assists in preparing reports as requested by the medical staff, administration, and/or the hospital’s Board of Directors.
- Develops networks with CME colleagues and ISMS accreditation staff to stay abreast of the latest accreditation requirements, mandates, and changes.
- Disseminates CME accreditation information to the CME Medical Director and CME Committee on a timely basis.
Education and Training:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree, preferably in a field of biological, health sciences, social sciences, or related field.
- Familiarity with ACCME and AMA Standards
- Required 2 years of experience directly related to human subject protections in research and IRB operations.
- Prior experience or related experience in continuing education, continuing professional development, adult education, and/or meeting planning experience preferred, preferably in a health care environment.
- Adept at utilizing needs assessment, quality improvement data and outcome measurements in program development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, well organized, and detail oriented.
- Great customer service skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Learning Management System.
- Knowledge of AV equipment

The expected pay for this position is listed below:
$25.84 - $32.30
The final offered salary will take several factors into consideration, including but not limited to: licensure, certifications, work experience, education, knowledge, demonstrated abilities, internal equity, market data, and more.
