The Assessment & Residential Psychologist position is a unique opportunity for an individual to provide leadership and programmatic development in two exciting spaces within Silver Hill Hospital. First, they will provide oversight and management of an intensive, structured evaluation service designed to provide clarity and insights for adults and adolescents experiencing challenges related to mental health, substance use, and diagnostic complexity. The psychologist will ensure the successful and timely completion of comprehensive, multidisciplinary assessments, including psychological testing and personalized treatment recommendations. The psychologist will also be responsible for ensuring effective communication among team members, patients, and family members, and formulating care plans that align with the program’s mission to provide clear, actionable next steps for patients’ mental health journeys. The psychologist will also provide assessment supervision of psychology trainees across the hospital. Second, as a Residential Psychologist, the psychologist will provide support, consultation, supervision, and direct clinical care at the Lodge, one of our residential programs serving patients with schizophrenia and bipolar spectrum disorders. They will help to strengthen and further develop psychotherapeutic programming within this program, incorporating evidence-based treatments including cognitive remediation, CBT for Psychosis, and skills-training groups, to foster patients’ skills acquisition and insight, leading to meaningful growth and recovery.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provides consultation, psychological assessment, individual therapy, group therapy, psychoeducation, clinical supervision, or other clinical interventions, in accordance with one’s clinical licensure and the requirements of the psychology discipline at Silver Hill Hospital.
- Provides programmatic leadership in Assessment and Residential settings, ensuring the development and implementation of high quality, evidenced-based practices.
- Works cross-functionally with clinicians and clinical leadership to ensure that high quality assessments are provided consistently, and in accordance with quality standards of care.
- Convenes interdisciplinary case conferences as needed to develop an integrated understanding patients undergoing assessment (i.e., individual, group, milieu, family) and to develop treatment plans that reflect the patient’s goals, preferences, needs, and sociocultural context.
- Collaborates with the Patient Experience and Quality Departments on implementing initiatives identified through patient and family feedback and in response to regulatory and/or accreditation standards.
- Helps build trust and camaraderie among team members and across programs in the hospital. Communicates respectfully to build quality communication and dialogue between members of the staff and the inter-disciplinary teams.
- Supports an environment where open discussion is encouraged. Model openness to differing perspectives and disagreements. Develops clear and inclusive decision-making processes.
- Provides supervision of psychology externs, interns, and postdoctoral fellows both within the Assessment Program and in the Psychology Department as needed.
- Performs other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must have the ability to function optimally in a stressful environment, and the ability to remain calm in emotionally charged situations.
- Extensive familiarity with psychodynamic formulations and assessment.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office applications)
- Experience with electronic medical records
Education and Experience:
- PhD or PsyD in Counseling/Clinical Psychology or Clinical Social Work; LCSW; DPN
- Licensed or license-eligible in the state of Connecticut.
- Experience working in inpatient, residential, and outpatient psychiatric settings.
- Five to seven years’ experience of providing high quality psychiatric/psychological treatment. Postdoctoral supervision experience and/or postdoctoral training in psychotherapy, group work, and/or family systems.
- Experience leading teams and/or management experience preferred.
