What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Recovery Support Specialist position at Silver Hill Hospital?
The Peer Recovery Support Specialist will be a dedicated member of the residential Dialectical Behavioral Therapy for Substance Use Disorders (DBT-S) team, working individually with DBT-S patients, facilitating groups and recovery meetings and supporting family members. Weekend availability required.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Individual Support: Work directly with patients in the residential program, offering one-on-one support to help them navigate their recovery journey, address challenges, and maintain motivation.
- Group Facilitation: Lead and facilitate support groups, including SMART Recovery meetings, and provide recovery education. Ensure that groups foster a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment for participants.
- Transition Preparation: Assist patients in preparing for their transition home by offering guidance on coping strategies, relapse prevention, and connecting them to community resources for continued support.
- Family Communication: Meet with patient and patient’s family to support their work on discharge contract, provide family education on recovery process as indicated by treatment team. Join family meetings with treatment team as needed.
- Multidisciplinary Team Collaboration: Attend and actively participate in weekly treatment team rounds to ensure continuity of care and to collaborate with other team members on patient progress, challenges, and treatment planning.
- Patient Orientation Support: Assist patients during their orientation to the program, providing encouragement and answering questions about the program’s structure and expectations.
- Support During Critical Moments: Provide support to patients during moments of uncertainty or doubt, especially when they may be questioning their commitment to the recovery process or treatment. Offer encouragement and reinforce the value of recovery.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members.
- Team Player: Collaborative and flexible with a commitment to providing high-quality care in a multidisciplinary team setting.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma
- Peer Recovery Support Certification is required.
- CASAC (Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor) certification is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates willing to pursue CASAC certification are encouraged to apply.
- Experience in Substance Use Treatment or mental health support is preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit at a desk and walk around for different periods of time.
Peer Recovery Support Specialist will report to the Peer Recovery Support Supervisor.
