Job Title: Retail Supervisor
FLSA Status: Full Time, Non-Exempt
Work Schedule: 32-40 hours per week
(4-5 shifts)
Department: Thrift Store, Colorado Springs Location
Reports to: Retail Sales Director
GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB
The Retail Supervisor is responsible for leading and overseeing the daily operations of the Silver Key Thrift Store, ensuring efficient workflows, staff development, and customer satisfaction. This role requires hands-on leadership, proactive problem-solving, and active engagement with both staff and volunteers to foster a positive team culture. We work hard but strive to create a fun and enjoyable workplace. The Retail Supervisor works directly with the Retail Sales Director to implement objectives, provide updates on store operations, and address any concerns or needs. This full-time position includes benefits and requires availability on Saturdays.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Creates an extraordinary customer service experience by maintaining a welcoming, clean, and organized store environment.
- Supervises, directs, and works alongside staff and volunteers to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Fosters a work environment that is safe, productive, fun, and engaging for staff and volunteers.
- Assists with scheduling and coordinating volunteers to ensure adequate shift coverage.
- Oversees and participates in the intake, processing, pricing, and stocking of donations, ensuring compliance with established guidelines.
- Supervises daily store operations, including opening and closing the store, cash handling, register reconciliation, and deposits.
- Provides specialized customer service to individuals in need of Durable Medical Equipment (DME) donations.
- Trains and supports staff and volunteers on store operations, including DME processing and Hub Scrub usage.
- Provides coaching to improve staff and volunteer performance.
- Ensures adherence to store policies and procedures.
- Performs administrative duties including data entry, tracking sales, and maintaining organized records.
- Collaborates with the Retail Sales Director to implement improvements that support store and volunteer growth.
- In the absence of the Retail Sales Director, assumes responsibility for overall store operations and makes independent decisions to maintain efficiency and resolve issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Silver Key Senior Services is a drug-free organization. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a drug screen and background checks. Business-specific knowledge: Knowledge of Silver Key Senior Services mission statement, policies/procedures, business-specific software, and safety regulations. This position does not require a background check by Colorado Adult Protective Services (CAPS).
REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Two or more years of retail and cash handling experience
- Two years of volunteer leadership experience
TECHNOLOGY PROFICIENCY
This position requires good proficiency in the use of a Point of Sale register, computer, email, Microsoft office applications.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, analytical skills, and interpersonal skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability and comprehension of basic math including percentages and fractions; capable of interpreting appropriate retail sales data from management.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Standing and Walking: Prolonged standing and walking throughout the shift.
- Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate store equipment.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST
The acquisition of items from the thrift store by staff or volunteers with the intention of reselling them for personal gain or business purposes is considered a conflict of interest and is strictly prohibited. Any staff or volunteers who own, manage, or are affiliated with businesses involved in the trade or resale of secondhand goods should disclose these affiliations prior to the start of their employment or volunteer service. Failure to disclose such information may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
