Purpose: The Family and Consumer Science (FACS) Teacher provides a broad range of teaching services or specific learning programs, assisting students in developing skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to become future leaders and lifelong learners. The FACS  Teacher will provide instruction in personal and family finance, food science, culinary arts, nutrition and wellness, textiles and apparel, and family relations. The FACS teacher will support the growth of the students through the FCCLA program associated with this assignment.

 

Reports To: Building Principal  

 

FLSA Status: Exempt, salaried 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Valid Kansas Teaching License with Home Economics, Vocational Home Economics, or Family and Consumer Science for grades 7-12.
  • The desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance. 
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office (after an employment offer is made) 

Essential Functions: A successful candidate must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. 

  • Plans, prepares, and outlines a plan of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students aligned with all state and district standards.  
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students, always treating students with dignity and respect.  
  • Employs various instructional strategies and techniques to meet the learning needs of all students. 
  • Incorporates instructional technology into lessons to create meaningful and regular student engagement.
  • Assigns lessons and other assignments as needed.  
  • Administers tests and assessments to evaluate students’ progress, records results, and issues reports to students, guardians, and administration.  
  • Takes all suitable and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. 
  • Keeps attendance records.  
  • Maintains a positive learning environment for all students and will positively manage student discipline.  
  • Meets with parents/guardians to discuss student progress and problems.  
  • Prepares, attends, and participates in faculty meetings, professional developments, parent-teacher conferences, and other professional meetings.  
  • Develops and maintains effective and appropriate interpersonal relationships with students, parents, and staff.  
  • Regular and consistent attendance at work. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned by administration.

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods. 
  • Ability to see, read, and enter data on a computer screen and see and read print material.
  • Ability to speak, hear, and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone. 
  • Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height. 
  • Ability to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, use step stools, walk, and reach overhead. 
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperatures.  
  • Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.  

Terms of Employment: At-will employment. 184-day Contract as part of the teacher collective bargaining unit.  

 

Evaluation: Performance evaluations in accordance with the Board’s policy and the Negotiated Agreement.

 

Benefits: This position qualifies for tuition reimbursement, leave, KPERS, district paid health insurance and short term disability, plus other optional insurances at employee expense.

Salary : $45,200
