Kingston Intermediate School is seeking a School Adjustment Counselor.
OB DESCRIPTION:
The role of the School Adjustment Counselor is to work with students and their families to address social, emotional, and behavioral health concerns. The role also supports students in order to positively guide their intellectual, emotional, and social development. In addition, the School Adjustment counselor collaborates with all stakeholders involved with assigned students in improving personal and academic success.
Responsibilities will include:
- Facilitating communication between the student and school staff, therapists, medical team, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Providing clinical support and crisis intervention counseling to the student and families.
- Assessing student functioning and triaging cases to school and community providers.
- Provide referral and resource information for mental health treatment in the community.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in written format and ability to interact effectively with families, community members, students and staff.
- Evidence of culturally competent practices.
- Excellent time management skills, ability to triage/prioritize given competing needs, ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- General understanding of the legal requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
- Understanding of environmental factors that affect learning and social adjustment, including experience with working with students who have experienced trauma.
- Experience working in a school environment preferrd.
LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
DESE licensure as either a School Adjustment Counselor, Guidance Counselor, or School Psychologist
This is a full time position with benefits available from the Town of Kingston. The yearly salary is $55,788 - $92,663 depending on education and experience.
