TITLE: MS4 Maintenance Worker

POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for maintenance activities on Township owned stormwater basins, parks and properties, including the operation of a variety of hand and power tools, varioustrucks, tractors, operation of a variety of light and heavy equipment along with towing trailers and snow clearing duties. This position must have the ability to perform strenuous work in varying weather conditions and other duties assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Perform maintenance and upkeep of all MS4 assets and infrastructures including retention ponds, detention ponds, ditches, storm drains and/or other duties assigned within job scope. • Maintains organized records to document and track compliance with all MS4 requirements which may require pictures and uploading of documents in the Townships software. • Operates laborer tools and equipment to include rakes, shovels, hammers, chain saws, mowers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, etc. • Installing stormwater pipe and ditch work • Performs road maintenance stormwater infrastructure repair and leaf collection including, but not limited to snow removal and paving • Operates trucks over 33,000 lbs. GVW as well as motorized highway and other equipment such as dump trucks, graders, backhoes, front-end loaders, rollers, tractors, and boom mowers • Operates mowers and applies pesticides (when certified) ensuring Township Properties are maintained in a pristine fashion following all MS4 guidelines. • Keeps Township parking lots, sidewalks, free of dirt, gravel, leaves and snow • Performs rough carpentry, cement finishing, and maintenance on Township owned storm sewers and other drainage structures, parks and properties, street signs and traffic control devices • Procures job related materials and supplies at all times • Performs traffic control flagger duties after proper training • Ability to work safely in all areas • Ability to travel to various locations throughout the Township to fulfill daily tasks • Performs all other duties assigned
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Experience, Education, Licenses/Certifications • One year experience in stormwater, sewer, water maintenance or general construction • High School diploma, GED or educational equivalent preferred • Valid driver's license at hire, obtain CDL class B license with air brake endorsement within six (6) months of hire • Valid pesticide licenses for core, plus #’s 6, 7, 9, 10 and #23 within six (6) months of hire • Valid flagger certification, preferred; but required within six (6) months of hire General Knowledge/Abilities • Maintenance, construction, and repair methods, standards and procedures used in wastewater system maintenance and repair. • Safety practices and procedures applicable to Stormwater system maintenance and repair. • Safe and effective operating practices of light and heavy equipment used in MS4 and public works maintenance operations. • Ability to cross-train in the various maintenance functions • Ability to cooperate with co-workers as members of a team • Ability to understand and comply with written standards and drawings for MS4 improvement projects • Ability to work independently but remain flexible in accordance with demands of schedule and work with team to achieve objectives • Ability to communicate effectively and understand directions • Ability to adhere to safety standards and recognize safety warnings and hazards. • Ability to prepare accurate records for documented work and certification • Ability to perform manual labor with basic building and ground equipment, including shovels, picks, mowers, etc., in all types of weather conditions • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends not included in normal work hours • Ability to work safely in all areas • Ability to function independently, have personal integrity, flexibility and the ability to work effectively with the public and fellow employees daily • Ability to execute the policies and procedures of Silver Spring Township • Ability to fluently speak and read the English language along with understanding and following both written and verbal direction daily • Ability to pull, push, move, and/or transport seventy-five (75) pounds daily
