The Operations System Engineer will collaborate closely with system users, requirements owners, and contractors to translate operational needs into actionable software requirements and solutions. This role supports internal product planning and execution efforts to ensure 24/7 operational readiness of a critical defense platform, contributing to the advancement of warfighting capabilities across the globe.
Primary Duties
- Participate in planning, coordinating, and directing engineering and technical support activities related to network operations and software integration.
- Support software and system test strategy development and execution.
- Assess contractor performance, schedules, and deliverables to ensure alignment with operational requirements.
- Provide oversight and participate in agile development activities, including scrums and sprint retrospectives.
- Offer technical recommendations regarding planning, tools, prioritization, testing, integration, and post-delivery support.
- Deliver multi-disciplinary solution recommendations to resolve complex technical issues.
- Apply critical thinking and problem-solving techniques to proactively mitigate risk.
- Create and present clear and concise briefings to stakeholders and leadership.
- Up to 25% travel may be required based on mission needs.
- Active TS/SCI Clearance.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Information Systems Management, Cyber/Network Operations planning, or Military Operations coordination.
- At least 2 years of experience in cyber, IT, or C4ISR systems.
- Experience supporting government oversight of IT vendor development activities.
- Proficiency with commercial-grade hardware including Dell (compute), NetApp (storage), and Cisco (networking).
- Experience with virtualized environments (VMs, VMWare).
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools and practices (e.g., Git, GitLab, Nexus, Jenkins).
- Strong communication skills with the ability to brief complex topics to senior leadership.
- Proven ability to make informed recommendations for business process improvements.
- Understanding of RMF processes and security assessment tools (e.g., Fortify, SonarQube, ACAS).
- Experience with DevSecOps practices.
- Experience deploying and managing software via VMWare across geographically dispersed users.
- Familiarity with Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, XP, SAFe).
- Experience developing web services software.
