GUTTER SHEET METAL INSTALLER

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under direct supervision of the Superintendent. The Sheet Metal Installer will fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal products and equipment, such as ducts, control boxes, drainpipes, and furnace casings. Work may involve any of the following: setting up and operating fabricating machines to cut, bend, and straighten sheet metal; shaping metal over anvils, blocks, or forms using hammer; operating soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal parts; or inspecting, assembling, and smoothing seams and joints of burred surfaces. Includes sheet metal duct installers who install prefabricated sheet metal ducts used for heating, air conditioning, or other purposes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Utilize and interpret blueprints to determine how and where to fabricate, assemble and install sheet metal products

• Measure, mark dimensions and lay out material to be installed using tools such as scribes, rulers, calculators and squares

• Fasten joints and seams in sheet metal with solder, welds, caulk, bolts and metal driver clips, ensuring work is done carefully and bonds will last

• Install assemblies, including pipes, HVAC ducts, flashings, rain gutters and furnace casings in supportive frameworks

• Ensure that efficiency is maximized while fabricating and installing HVAC systems

• Use hand and power tools to trim, buff, smooth, file and grind metal surfaces and joints of parts that have been assembled to ensure safety and a seamless appearance

• Select the appropriate type and gauge of sheet metal to be used in projects according to specifications

• Ensure safety is a priority on the job during all activities, including using tools and installing and fabricating metal

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma, GED or suitable equivalent.

• Valid driver’s license.

• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work after hours, over weekends and on public holidays with short or no notice.

• Ability to do physical labor and other strenuous physical tasks.

• Ability to work in all weather.

• Ability to lift heavy materials and tools

• Must be able to read and interpret blueprints

• Excellent math skills

TRAVEL REQUIRED:

• Travel may be required on a project to project basis.
