Purpose of Simulator Technician
The Simulator Technician I, II, III, positions maintain and / or repair Full Flight Simulators (FFS) and Flight Training Devices (FTDs) in accordance with Regulatory Authority requirements and company standards
by performing the following duties :
Tasks and Responsibilities of Flight Simulator Technician
- Ability to perform the standard Simulator support activities such as : pre-flights and post-flights as well as installs, replaces, cleans, repairs, and services various equipment including visual generation / display systems, computers, computer networks, motion systems, electronic circuit boards, and circuits.
- Requires the ability to read and interpret electronic / electrical drawings, schematics, and logic diagrams and be able to troubleshoot circuits to component level.
- Perform Customer configuration changes to Simulators and FTDs, evaluate and confirm proper post change operation. This includes hardware, software, and avionics database change-outs.
- Requires the ability to troubleshoot and repair electronic circuits, computers, computer networks, visual generation / display systems, hydraulic systems, input / output systems, pneumatics, mechanical, and flight instrumentation with little to no assistance.
- Exercise sound judgment and independence in determining solutions to maintenance and repair problems, and otherwise carry assignments through to completion.
- Monitor Simulator(s) performance and condition to ensure that equipment continues in compliance with governmental regulations; this is accomplished by making sure that changes are not made to the training software or hardware that would affect the handling characteristics of the simulator, in either air or on ground modes in accordance with SIMCOM Aviation Training policy’s and standards; also through continuing observation of maintenance and pre-flight log(s), and by assisting with and / or conducting simulator performance evaluations, as necessary.
- Able to accomplish scheduled portions of the Qualification Test Guide (QTG), check and grade test results as required, and participate in recertification process for the Regulatory bodies.
- Must be familiar with all governing regulations required by the various approval authorities for the proper operation of all FTDs, the facility, and the safe employment of personnel.
- Monitors and tracks the repair status of inoperative equipment and to document maintenance activities utilizing the Maintenance Management System (MMS).
- Make recommendations to the Lead / Sr. Lead Technician concerning needed parts, acquisitions, or other material used for repair and support or other Center projects.
- Report on a timely basis, any safety hazards observed in work area, equipment, and / or building to the appropriate person(s) for correction.

Minimum Education of Simulator Technician
Associate degree in electronics or completion of an electronics technical program preferred; or a combination of three (3) years’ education and experience, including civilian / military electronics / avionics, or related technical experience.
