About the role
The Field Response Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting emergency response operations by coordinating field activities, assisting disaster survivors, and ensuring efficient deployment of resources. This position requires strong logistical and case management skills, familiarity with disaster response protocols, and the ability to work under pressure in dynamic environments. The Field Response Coordinator will serve as a key liaison between response teams, command staff, disaster survivors, and external stakeholders to facilitate effective operations and ensure compliance with emergency management policies.
What you'll do
- Eligibility Assessment: Conduct intake interviews with disaster survivors to assess their eligibility for FEMA-provided non-congregate sheltering programs based on established criteria.
- Application Assistance: Guide applicants through the sheltering program application process, ensuring accurate and complete submission of required documentation.
- Field Operations Support: Assist in the coordination and execution of emergency response efforts, ensuring field teams are effectively deployed and supported.
- Resource Management: Track and manage personnel, equipment, and logistical needs to maintain operational effectiveness.
- Incident Coordination: Work closely with incident command leadership to ensure response activities align with established action plans.
- Coordination & Case Management: Work with local jurisdictions, non-profit organizations, and FEMA representatives to coordinate shelter placements and ensure smooth transitions for eligible individuals and families.
- Data Management & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of sheltering applications, approvals, and placements, and provide regular reports to state emergency management leadership and FEMA.
- Compliance & Policy Adherence: Ensure all sheltering operations align with FEMA guidelines, state emergency management policies, and applicable legal requirements.
- Stakeholder Communication: Serve as a liaison between disaster survivors, emergency management officials, and partner agencies to resolve issues and improve service delivery.
- Situational Awareness: Monitor evolving incident conditions and relay critical updates to leadership and field teams.
- Post-Incident Documentation: Assist with after-action reports, capturing key takeaways and opportunities for improvement.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulatory guidelines during response operations.
Qualifications
- ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications required (ICS 300/400 preferred).
- 3 years of experience in emergency response, case management, or field coordination preferred.
- Law enforcement or military experience a plus.
- Working knowledge of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS).
- Experience working with FEMA disaster assistance programs or sheltering initiatives preferred.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills in fast-paced environments.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for coordination with diverse teams.
- Ability to work long hours in unpredictable conditions, including travel to response sites.
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting large-scale incidents or disaster response efforts.
- Background in public safety, emergency management, or social services.
- Familiarity with FEMA’s Individual Assistance and Non-Congregate Sheltering Programs.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to evolving situations.
- Case management experience, particularly with disaster survivors.
