What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paralegal/Legal Assistant position at Simeone & Miller, LLP?
Simeone & Miller, LLP is a seven-attorney law firm located in Washington, DC, focusing primarily on personal injury cases. We are looking for a paralegal/legal assistant to work directly with other paralegals, office managers, attorneys and clients. No experience is required, but it may be helpful. Currently accepting applications for a Spring start date.
The paralegal will assist the firm, paralegals, office managers and attorneys with a caseload of personal injury and other matters, primarily:
Taking new case calls and screening potential new cases;
Sorting, organizing, and filing mail and faxes for your caseload;
Maintaining office work stations and copier room;
Assist with the pre-litigation workup of cases, including ordering police reports, ordering and following up with medical bills and records, filing, contacting witnesses, and corresponding with insurance companies;
Drafting demand letters and other correspondence;
Assisting in the disbursement of settled cases, including checking outstanding medical balances, and corresponding with health insurance companies;
Assist with the drafting of complaints and other pleadings;
Corresponding with courts and other attorneys' offices;
Assisting paralegals and attorneys in regard to trials, depositions and other court appearances; and, most importantly;
Maintaining excellent client relations.
The paralegal will work directly with other paralegals, office managers, partners and senior attorneys and have frequent client contact.
