Job Summary:SimIS, Inc. seeks a Robotics and Unmanned Mechanical Engineer to support our Robotics and Unmanned Systems Division. The successful candidate will work with an innovative team of engineers focused on the development of cutting-edge autonomous systems, robotics capabilities, and AI solutions for a safer world. The Robotics and Unmanned Systems Divisionhas a new and rare opportunity for a strong technical candidate with a STEM degree to join an innovative team of engineers focused on developing Artificial Intelligence and/or Autonomous System solutions for sponsor needs. The right candidate will thrive in a fast-paced team environment and work with groundbreaking technology. We are seeking a self-starter that assists in building robotics and artificial intelligence projects. The candidate for this position will work on a wide variety of challenging activities in direct support of sponsor programs and will support SimIS’s AI and autonomy efforts.

Responsibilities include:
- Work on a team to develop and implement autonomy algorithms on robotics hardware
- Develop and use modern software engineering techniques to create artificial intelligence software
- Maintain knowledge of advances of autonomy and/or artificial intelligence in industry and academia
- Collect and analyze sensor and algorithm data to improve robotics system performance
- Develop, propose, and execute research in the field of autonomy and AI
- Evaluate autonomy and AI solutions and compare to sponsor requirements and needs
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Advanced degree in technical field of study preferred
- 4 years of applicable work experience
- Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office suite and MS Project
- Must have demonstrated proficiency and strength in verbal, written, PC, presentation, and communications skills
- Proven ability to work independently to learn new technologies, techniques, processes, languages, platforms, systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to nurture relationship development with sponsors
- Must be able to and open to receiving external input from sponsors
- Experience working with Federal customers preferred
- Expertise of robotics and autonomous systems technologies, techniques, architectures, and algorithms
- Experience in artificial intelligence fields, such as computer vision, deep learning, machine learning, planning, human machine teaming, and multi-robot systems
- Experience in interpreting and manufacturing 2D/3D parts based on CAD designs
- Detailed knowledge of CAD tools and the ability to design complex 2D and 3D parts, including the ability to run CAD analysis for parts strength, durability, and weight
- Detailed knowledge of testing procedures for mechanical parts under high stress
- Ability to apply basic knowledge of mechanical engineering technology concepts, such as typical fastener sizes, properties, material compatibility
- Experience with robotics software and frameworks, e.g. ROS, ROS2,
- Experience with programming languages such as C and python, Unity, Gazebo, RVIZ,
- Experience with AI development tools such as Tensor Flow, JETSON API, etc
- Knowledge of the challenges of developing autonomous and/or AI systems that are robust in real world scenarios
- Knowledge of software engineering practices such as continuous integration, source control, software testing, Agile, Waterfall, DEVOPS, etc
- Knowledge of CAN bus integration
- Ability to accurately document production, design, and manufacturing processes, test procedures, and test results
- Ability to perform other job-related duties as required
- Ability to lift up to 25lbs
