JOB SUMMARY:

The Division of Academic Affairs at Simmons College of Kentucky invites applications to fill the position of Prison Education Program Coordinator. This is a part-time position at Northpoint Training Center that will report to the Director of the Prison Education Program. The Prison Education Program (PEP) provides need-based Pell Grants to people in state and federal prisons to further their collegiate education. The incumbent will serve as a liaison between the Kentucky Department of Corrections and Simmons College of Kentucky. This individual will be responsible for growing and advancing our program and institution through investment in students in the prison population. This role plays a critical part in empowering justice involved individuals, breaking down work force barriers, and fostering partnerships.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


· Assist the Director of the Prison Education Program (PEP) with the overall planning, budgeting, and execution of the Second Chance Pell Program.

· Promote and recruit for PEP at participating facilities, including clarifying participant expectations.

· Collaborate with correctional staff, faculty, and other administrators at participating correctional facilities.

· Assist with Admissions Applications, Major Program of Study Exploration, Financial Aid Applications, Course Selection, and online course Learning Management System navigation.

· Act as a liaison between Kentucky Department of Corrections and the staff of Simmons College of Kentucky.

· Coordinate Simmons College of Kentucky faculty on-site visits.

· Foster partnerships with correctional agency officials, community organizations, and employers to enhance post-release opportunities.

· Advocate for the value of education in reducing recidivism and promoting successful reentry.

· Track student progress, graduation rates, and employment outcomes.

· Collaborate with Department of Corrections to evaluate program effectiveness.

· Recruit and conduct quarterly meetings of the Community Advisory Board.

· Work with Student Support Services to ensure participants' needs beyond the classroom are addressed.

Other Skills and Abilities:

· A demonstrated commitment to educational equity and a clear and sophisticated understanding of the relationships between poverty, racism, incarceration, disability, and access to quality education in the United States

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

· Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Passionate about supporting student well-being and success and the broader goal of educational justice

· A willingness to travel

· Valid driver’s license and current insurance

· Must complete the Kentucky Department of Corrections Academy Training
