Position Summary:

The Oakland Director, Facilities is responsible for the caretaking and maintenance of the companys 200,000 square foot facility located in Oakland, MD. The Oakland facility is home to the companys largest glass manufacturing operation and its primary warehouse and fulfillment operation.

The Oakland Facilities Director role is an opportunity to support and participate in all aspects of the operation in Oakland, while being integral to furthering the companys strategy and participating in the corporate safety team. The Oakland Facilities Director will oversee facilities management, and equipment installation/maintenance, to enable the operational goals of the manufacturing, retail and warehouse operations.

The Oakland Facilities Director will be overseen and supported remotely by the Senior Director of Facilities and Safety, located in Vermont. Together there is a shared responsibility to work closely with financial and operational leaders, and the CEO (who oversees rental real estate). The Oakland Facilities Director will ensure that Oakland employees and guests have what they need from an accessibility, safety and security standpoint, at all times.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the maintenance team
  • Oversee on-site rental real estate and our responsibilities as a landlord
  • Partner with senior management and department managers to help enable goals and ensure operational uptime
  • Facilities and installation related project management
  • Preventative maintenance planning and execution
  • Lead, and ensure compliance with, internal and external safety and process audits
  • Participate in annual plan development including budgets and tactics
  • Lead safety committees and participate actively in management meetings
  • Work as needed to support a 7 day per week, 2 shift operation
  • Share the on-call responsibilities
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications Required:

  • College degree relevant to Facilities Management, or sufficient related work experience
  • Minimum of ten (10) years experience in a relevant managerial role; and a track record that demonstrates positions of increasing responsibility and accomplishment
  • Extensive knowledge of and comfort with computers to manage budgets, conduct research, communicate, and organize files
  • Proven success scoping and managing large projects and contractors
  • Understanding of safety regulations

  • The ideal candidate would have engineering experience in a manufacturing facility, with an understanding of melting furnaces, but this is not required

The employee is occasionally required to sit and taste or smell.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
