What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Analyst - Government State Agency position at Simplex?
This will be a 3 month contract with the potential of a permanent position at some point. You will need to be based in Austin, or commutable to downtown. This position will be in-office 1-2 days/week but this may be subject to change so you must be comfortable with a hybrid role.
We are looking for a Financial Analyst to work on one of the most exciting projects in Texas State Government in years. You will work with a small team including Accountants and Grant specialists to analyze data and financial plans and assist with the execution of the overall plan/vision of the State Agency. Duties of the role Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements
- Analyzes and reviews financial data, information, and applicable business and/or financial plans.
- Monitors and coordinates third-party financial reviews, including data accumulation, financial modeling, reporting, and monitoring of responses.
- Assists with developing and implementing internal financial policies and procedures for the Commission.
- Ensures internal compliance with established procedures, processes, and documentation.
- Performs or reviews financial analysis scenarios using financial modeling tools.
- Prepares vendor solicitations and other program-related reports and responds to internal and external inquiries.
- Monitors performance contracts and advises staff on matters relating to financial contracts, third-party business agreements, etc.
- Updates and maintains data related to private business, local units of government, and non-profit organizations to ensure the most current and accurate information is available for program purposes.
- Five (3-5) years of professional experience in finance, accounting, economic development, economics, business administration, political science, public administration, or a related field.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in finance, accounting, economic development, economics, business administration, political science, public administration, or a related field; and
- Previous experience working at a government agency (local/state/federal).
- Previous experience working with Texas Grant Management Standards.

- Knowledge of financial analyses and examination procedures for regulated entities.
- Knowledge of financial and industry terminology and practices.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis.
- Skill in data modeling.
- Ability to perform and interpret numerical analyses.
- Ability to interpret statutes.
- Ability to analyze, evaluate, and summarize financial and management records for accuracy and conformance to procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Ability to prepare reports and correspondence regarding findings.
