Behavior Professional

Job Summary

The Behavior Professional (BP) is responsible for providing behavior support services to the individuals served by Cornerstone Valley, Inc. (CVI). Services are provided in line with current rules, regulations, and laws. The BP will train and certify new staff on the Oregon Intervention System (OIS) and provide further training, retraining, and recertification as needed to ensure the appropriate care and safety for our individuals. Work will be done in a timely, accurate, and professional fashion.

Ideal Candidate

Has Behavior Professional Experience in a 24-Hour Residential Setting for youth / adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, co-occurring mental health diagnosis, or other significant medical and behavioral issues.

Current OIS certificate and instructor.

Knowledge of ALL applicable OAR's

Field / Direct Support Experience

Extensive Knowledge related client documents including but not limited to : ISP, RIT, FBA. PBSP, and Home Safety Plans.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, the employee must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and in a timely manner. The following duties are representative of the job but are not all inclusive and other duties may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

One of the following A, B, C, or D

a) Possess a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA ) graduate-level certification in behavior analysis and one year of experience using positive behavior support services with individuals who experience intellectual or developmental disabilities, OR

b) Possess a Master of Arts or Master of Science in psychology, sociology, human services, education, social work, or the equivalent as evidenced by providing transcripts indicating applicable coursework, and one year of experience using positive behavior support services with individuals who experience intellectual or developmental disabilities, OR

c) Possess a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in psychology, sociology, human services, education, social work, or the equivalent as evidenced by providing transcripts indicating applicable coursework, and three years of experience using positive behavior support services with individuals who experience intellectual or developmental disabilities, OR

d) A minimum of six years of experience performing professional behavior services using positive behavior support services prior to January 1, 2021.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Flexible and adaptable to change.

Valid Oregon Driver's License and insured vehicle available for use on the job.

Duties

Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA)

Complete functional assessment process as needed

Ensure FBA clinical products meet all requirements as dictated by the OARs

Update behavioral topography descriptions prior to annual Individual Service Planning (ISP) meetings

Conduct staff, manager, and other important interviews as applicable, file review, and observations to complete and develop the initial FBA

Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSPs)

Create, update, and maintain workable PBSPs

Ensure that PBSPs reflect and match Risk Identification Tool, Home Safety Plan, and Provider Risk Management Strategies document

Ensure PBSPs are in company format, easy to read, instructive, and concise

Ensure that PBSPs meet all requirements as dictated by the Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs)

Make updates as needed (at least every six months, but also as new behaviors arise or change) Update document, create change form, gain ISP team approval, train to staff

Make changes as requested by the ISP team

Work with the House Manager to determine the best way to implement changes in the home

Behavior Tracking

Create and maintain behavior tracking systems for each PBSP

Review and compile behavior data monthly

Review Alteration Criteria monthly and schedule Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) meetings as needed

General Event Reports (GERs)

Complete reviews on all behavior GERs within 5 business days

Debrief with staff as needed to gather additional information, give feedback and direction on GERs, and provide instruction on future actions

Collaborate with House Manager on reviews as necessary

Retrain staff in response to GERs as needed

PPI Debriefing and Reporting

Review and debrief on incidents involving physical intervention with children in accordance with CVI's policy on this

Submit PPI data to the BP supervisor on the first day of each month, using the form provided by the BP supervisor

Appointments

Attend all psychiatric appointments for clients

Provide recent / relevant behavior data to prescriber

Stay up-to-date and informed on client medications and purpose

Meetings

Attend all IDT meetings

Attend weekly managers meetings

Attend staff meetings as necessary

Attend Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings for individuals enrolled in school

Attend all yearly pre-ISP and ISP meetings

Attend court hearings as needed

Attend entry or exit meetings for clients as they arise

Attend client Restructuring Budgets, Assessments, and Rates - Supports Intensity Scale (REBAR-SIS) and / or Oregon Needs Assessment (ONA) meetings as they arise and provide documentation as requested

Annual ISP

Review all client documentation prior to annual ISP (RIT, FBA, PBSP, Home Safety Plan)

Collaborate with House Manager on changes needed

Collaborate with case manager on any Individually Based Limitations (IBLs) that need to be created / signed

Updates

Update FBA and PBSP with new data, any added or removed behaviors, goals, alteration criteria, client info as needed

Training

Train staff on FBA information, PBSP, and other supports upon client intake

Train staff on all updates to documentation as they occur

Train staff as needed when issues or patterned problems arise

Retrain individual staff when issues become or have the potential to become persistent

Retrain individual or all staff when supports are not properly followed

Collaboration with Team Members

Maintain close, collaborative relationships with House Managers in order to address problems quickly as they arise, to identify and discuss potential strategies and supports, including the case manager and scheduling IDT meetings as needed

Oregon Intervention System (OIS)

Obtain and maintain OIS Instructor certification and credentials

Train and certify new hires in OIS during new hire week(s)

Upon initial training, notify Human Resources of each new hire or employee's OIS expiration date

Provide Cornerstone Human Resources with copy of employee OIS certificate

Send OIS data to OIS contract holder within 30 days of each OIS class

Retrain and / or practice Protective Physical Interventions (PPIs) with staff as needed

Client Intake / Exit

Review referral packets for potential new clients

Attend transition meetings (meeting client at current residence, transfer meetings)

Determine with team whether prospective client is a good fit

On intake, review all client history info and documentation provided

During exit, assist in getting current supports (FBA, PBSP, data) to new agency

Client Interaction

Observe client behavior and staff interaction in the home by occasionally working from the homes and observing at the same time

Schedule time to be with clients as workload allows

For new clients, allow a sufficient amount of time to observe and get to know them

Client Rights

Stay up to date on relevant OARs

Stay informed on Client Rights rules (Home & Community Based Services (HCBS), IBLs, etc.)

Collaborate and brainstorm with House Manager when a client's rights are in question

Licensing

Attend all licensing onsite reviews at the home(s)

Complete Plan of Improvement (POI) for citations applicable to BP's responsibilities by required due date

Make changes, meet with team, and retrain staff as needed per licensing POI requirements

Crisis Response

Assist in crisis behaviors as needed, either via phone to help client de-escalate or in person if possible

Ongoing Research

Stay up to date on any policy changes

Research behavior management methods

Research relevant topics in the Intellectual / Developmental Disability (I / DD) field

Any and all other duties as assigned.
