Job Title: Safety Manager
Position Description:
- Perform management oversight of construction activity on behalf of the client, reporting on contractor regulatory and contract safety compliance across multiple project sites.
- Monitor adherence to current OSHA requirements applicable to specific construction projects.
- Conduct daily safety reviews of work in progress in accordance with current Safety Regulations and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) developed and updated by the organization.
- Support the Program Safety Manager by attending meetings and providing safety reports/analysis as requested.
- Lead the safety topic at construction meetings with the project team and general contractor, report on site observations, and review the upcoming construction schedule for hazard preparedness.
- Perform ongoing construction site safety inspections and generate a daily safety report for all site visits.
- Submit weekly Project Health Safety and Environmental Observation Reports to the College Project Manager.
- Review contractor-submitted safety submittals, JHA, MOP, Fall Protection Plans, Crane Lift Plans, Excavation and Scaffold Erecting Plans, Confined Space Entry, and hazard assessments for high-risk operations.
- Participate in safety stand-downs, prepare and submit lessons learned to the Program Safety Manager.
- Document safety orientation with the contractor's safety representative.
- Monitor zero-tolerance and corrective action policy enforcement for workers not in compliance with the program's safety policy.
- Flexibility is required for a variable schedule and transportation to work at multiple sites within the greater Los Angeles area.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, establish daily work priorities, and perform oversight at multiple active construction projects.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- 10 years of experience in commercial construction.
- 5 years of managing multiple projects in different stages of construction at various jobsite locations.
- 5 years of field experience as a Construction Safety Consultant working with General Contractors and Subcontractors.
- Experience working with OCIP.
- 2 years of experience in construction of educational projects in a campus environment.
- Experience with modernization-type projects involving abatement, remediation, and hazardous waste material removal.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in senior safety management with large building programs across multiple sites.
- Participation in scheduled construction progress meetings.
- Strong experience in incident and daily construction reporting.
- Effective communication with owners' construction management staff and contractors' site Management Teams.
- Ability to manage, control, and accurately report safety incidents in a timely manner.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Required Certificates:
- Current OSHA 500 Trainer Certification in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry.
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification.
- Valid Safety Management Specialist (SMS), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or Certified Safety Manager Construction (CSMC) certification issued by a recognized board or association.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Construction management, safety management, safety engineer, or related degree.
- Additional safety/health certifications and credentials as appropriate for this position.
- Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification.
