General Overview
Responsible for the overall administration of the Human Resources function for the Southeast Region at Sims Metal.
The Human Resources Business Partner will be responsible for employee relations, enforcing company policy and practices, and partnering with the following support functions:
- Talent Acquisition function or onboarding of new employees, employee development, retention, and engagement initiatives.
- Payroll and Benefits departments to facilitate applicable processes for assigned employee groups
The individual in this role will be an important member of the entire East Coast and North American Metal HR Teams through a partnership with all team members to ensure consistency across all areas. While the primary focus will be to support the Southeast sub-region, we foster a true team environment within HR where this position might be called upon from time to time to assist in other areas of the East Coast as needed.
Major Job Responsibilities/Duties
- Performs tasks required to administer and execute human resources programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; training and development; employee relations counseling; conducts exit interviews.
- Plans, organizes, and controls all activities of the department for the client group. Participates in developing department goals, objectives, and systems
- In conjunction with NAM Talent Acquisition, conducts onboarding activities for all exempt, nonexempt, and temporary workers.
- Coordinates all human resources training programs. Provides necessary education and materials to managers and employees including workshops and presentations for legal compliance and company policy.
- Establishes and maintains department records and reports. Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings, such as seminars. Maintains organizational charts and employee directories.
- Evaluates reports, decisions, and results of department initiatives in relation to established goals. Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in the efficiency of department and services performed
- Coaches, counsels, and guides managers before executing employee disciplinary actions. Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommends best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Coordinates all human resources training programs. Provides necessary education and materials to managers and employees including workshops and presentations for legal, compliance, and company policy.
- Conducts investigations when employee complaints or concerns are brought forth
- Assistance in organizing and participation in community outreach events
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration preferred
- 3-5 years experience as a Human Resources Generalist, HR Manager, or HRBP
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
