POSITION OVERVIEW
A Sinai Akiba Academy Athletics Coach is an integral member of our Staffulty, influences and helps develop the character of our students and serves as a role model exemplifying Sinai Akiba Academy’s Core Values. Key to the role is supporting the student - athletes’ athletic, social-emotional and skill development in line with the mission and culture of Sinai Akiba Academy. A successful Athletics Coach should have extensive knowledge, as well as experience, in the sport and be able to articulate basic and advanced concepts effectively in teaching students how to play. This is a part-time, non-exempt position. NIKE sponsored coaching gear is provided.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, organize and lead practice sessions and game strategies
- Direct, encourage, and motivate athletes
- Maintain communication with the Athletic Director and school administration
- Keep records of athletes’ attendance and performance
- Ensure all athletes are familiar with league protocols and rules
- Create and implement strategies to support the individual athlete and collective team skill development
- Assist with game set-up and scoreboard operation, as needed
- Provide feedback and positive coaching during practices and competitions
- Mentor athletes to develop sportsmanship and respect for scholarship and athletics
- Maintain the equipment and facilities to ensure safe playing conditions
- Ensure consistent and appropriate supervision and guidance of the athletes at all times
- Normal working days and times are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:15 pm - 5:15 pm. Adjusted times on game days.
- Required to travel by bus to and from away games with the athletes.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR SOCCER COACHING
- Fundamentals and Skill Development: As the coach of the boys' soccer teams for 4th-8th graders, you will be responsible for teaching fundamental soccer skills such as passing, dribbling, shooting, defending, and understanding team tactics. The emphasis will be on technique development and fostering a love for the game.
- Age-Appropriate Coaching: Adapt coaching methods to meet the developmental needs of 4th-8th graders, recognizing the varying levels of skill and understanding of the game. Focus on building confidence in basic skills and transitioning to more advanced concepts such as positioning, teamwork, and game strategy.
- Player Progression: Design drills and practices that focus on progressive learning, ensuring that players can see their improvement over time and gain the confidence to challenge themselves. Focus on helping players grow both as individuals and as team members.
- Teamwork and Collaboration, Guided by Jewish Values: In alignment with Sinai Akiba Academy's core Jewish values, cultivate a team environment grounded in mutual respect, kindness, and collaboration. Encourage players to embody the value of "Ahavat Chesed" (loving-kindness), by supporting each other and showing care for their teammates’ growth and success. Instill the importance of "Kevod HaBriyot" (respect for others) by ensuring that every player’s voice is heard and their role is valued on the team. Promote the spirit of "Tikkun Olam" (repairing the world) by teaching athletes to demonstrate good sportsmanship, not only when they win but also when they face challenges, always treating opponents and referees with respect. Teach the players that soccer, like life, is about working together to make the whole team stronger, and that helping each other rise is key to both personal and collective success.
- Positive and Supportive Environment: Create an environment that encourages personal growth, resilience, and fun. Allow players to take risks, learn from mistakes, and celebrate improvements, all while ensuring that teamwork and sportsmanship are the heart of the game.
- Game Preparation and Strategy: Teach players about the tactical aspects of soccer, including formations, roles on the field, and team strategies. Emphasize the importance of good decision-making and team coordination, while reinforcing the concept of playing the game with integrity and respect.
COMPENSATION: $30 - $40 per hour.
