Position Purpose: The Health Information Management (HIM) Coordinator is responsible for performing detailed-oriented technical functions as needed to facilitate efficiency in the operations of the HIM department. The coordinator will also perform some front line supervisor’s functions.
Education & Work Experience
: • Graduate of an accredited Health Information Technology (HIT) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) program
• Three or more years of work experience in data analytics, coding and/or chart auditing
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Strong organizational skills

• Strong communication skills
• Strong customer service skills
• Skilled in the navigation of Epic (preferred)
• Project management skills (preferred) Knowledge and Skills
: • Provide oversight and completion of data integrity functions as required and needed in the EHR (e.g.: chart correction and arrived in error WQs)
• Assist in ensuring chart completion and timely reimbursement practices
. • Assist in the development of educational training materials for key stakeholders on: documentation practices, duplicate medical record numbers, etc.
• Participate in project management assignments such as: o The identification of trends and patterns in the assignment of duplicate medical record numbers o The identification of trends and patterns with problem charts (i.e. paper-based H&P missing; overlays) o Purging of health record • Assist in writing corrective action plans as needed.
• Identify opportunities for improvement in HIM workflows.
• Assist in the oversight of the quality control of health records and record destruction.
• Performs qualitative analysis of problematic charts.
• Participate on a committee as assigned.
• Assist in facilitating departmental improvement with the use of CQI tools (flowcharts, fish bone diagrams, control charts, cause and effect diagrams, etc.
• Assist in the preparation of reports for accrediting and/or regulatory body surveys. • Cover data analyst as needed. • Approve time sheets of staff.
