GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Emergency Department Technician (ERT) performs a variety of functions in the clinical setting, The ERT provides direct patient care, performs phlebotomy and ECG’s. The ERT collaborates with the registered nurse in providing appropriate and safe patient care interventions.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Adheres to all OSHA mandated, patient care standards and organizational policies regarding safety and infection control.
- Adheres to all organizational and Emergency Department policies and procedure.
- Performs patient hygiene care including: bathing, oral care, linen changes, assistance with elimination needs, catheter insertion and care. Measures and documents patient intake and output of elimination and drainage. Collects, accurately labels and sends specimens to the lab.
- Performs and documents patient wound/skin care techniques and prepares wound prep.
- Performs simple sterile and non-sterile dressing changes. Discontinues hep locks.
- Observes and evaluates patient condition. Notifies significant changes in patient’s condition, behavior, or abnormal observations to the registered nurse.
- Demonstrates safe operation of medical equipment including, foley catheters, suctioning and drainage equipment, blood glucose monitor, patient safety devices/restraints. Acquires and charges for supplies from Central Service. Operates fax, stamping machine and cellphones. Properly uses computer to order tests, results and obtain patient information.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
A level of knowledge acquired through completion of an EMT course and or nursing school program, phlebotomy and ECG program.
Work requires attention to details, prioritization of tasks and problem solving skills.
Must be able to interact and communicate effectively with team and patients.
Must have excellent command of the English language
Bilingual a plus but not required.
