What are the responsibilities and job description for the PSYCH UNIT IP PCT position at Sinai Chicago?
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs a variety of functions in the clinical setting.
The PCT provides direct patient care, performs phlebotomy and electrocardiograms (EKG). The PCT collaborates with and works under the direction of the registered nurse to provide appropriate and safe patient care. The PCT utilizes the Hospital information system to order diagnostic tests and therapies and obtain patient information and test results. The PCT supports the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
The level of knowledge normally acquired through completion of a basic nurse assistant, phlebotomy, and EKG program. Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously with limited direct supervision in a fast-paced work environment. Work requires continual attention to details, prioritization of tasks and problem-solving skills. Must be able to interact and communicate effectively with team members and patients. Must have good command of the English language.
Education and/or licensure requirements:
· Graduate of a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) or PCT program. Qualified to work as a CNA per the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).
· Phlebotomy training required. Must pass skills validation within 30 days of hire.
· EKG training and/or certificate preferred
· Basic Life Support (BLS) required
Experience:
· One year of hospital CNA experience is preferred; New grads are accepted.
Interpersonal Skills:
· Works with other health care professional/disciplines in a team atmosphere.
· Ability to respond quickly and competently to requests by patients and registered nurse.
· Must be able to maintain patient confidentiality.
Analytical Abilities:
· Able to prioritize workload to ensure expected patient care assignments and respective documentation are completed accurately and timely.
Working Conditions:
- Requires working various shifts and weekends.
- Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a hospital setting.
- Prolonged sitting and standing and other physical challenges such as stooping, bending, keyboarding, and weightlifting.
- Rapid pace with distracting surroundings.
