Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team at Sinai Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating diagnostic ultrasound equipment to produce high-quality images for use in diagnosing disease or evaluating the pregnant uterus.
About the Role:
- This role requires a thorough understanding of ultrasound physics and equipment operation to produce accurate images.
- The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to work effectively with patients, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals.
- They will also need to maintain ultrasound equipment in good working order and report any malfunctions promptly.
- Apart from basic duties, the ideal candidate should be comfortable with learning new technologies and updating their knowledge on relevant guidelines.
- The imaging professional must verify patient identity using various methods, such as ID bands and confirmation through registration information, while following hospital policies.
- He/she will need to ensure that all Doppler controls and principles are understood in order to produce the proper images for evaluation and diagnosis by the reading physician.
- It is essential that the candidate has the ability to discern between real anatomic reflections from tissue versus artifact and adjust controls to minimize artifacts.
- In addition, he/she should demonstrate an understanding of the difference between normal appearing anatomy, abnormally appearing anatomy, alterations caused by pathology, fluid collections, and create an imaging file that best represents this.
- Accurate documentation of biopsies, fluid aspiration, tissue aspiration, and other invasive procedures performed under ultrasound guidance is required.
- The successful candidate will consistently place studies into Taken status in Meditech, verified status into PACS, and properly attaches all relevant ultrasound orders in AS software.
- Assigning ultrasound studies properly to the designated reading physician based on the exam type is also part of the job requirements.
- Rotating across the system, including Mount Sinai Hospital, Holy Cross Hospital, La Villita, Hawthorne and Lawndale, along with shift flexibility, covering PTO, call-ins, and emergencies, is expected.
