What are the responsibilities and job description for the CARDIO DIAG EKG TECHNICIAN position at Sinai Health System?
General Summary/Basic Purpose of Job:
The EKG Tech performs basic Non-Invasive Cardiology diagnostic procedures upon patients with suspected deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system.
Responsibilities:
- Performs routine ECG studies on neonatal, pediatric and adult patients in accordance with physicians' written orders. Place electrodes on the patient's chest, legs, and arm area. Attaches leads from ECG machine to patient for standard ECG recording.
- Note any significant technical comments on the recording and have knowledge of the rhythms: modified lead placement, uncontrolled patient movement, etc. Reports any abnormal findings to the patient's RN or MD.
- Performs routine Holter and Event monitoring procedures on adult and pediatric patients. Instructs patients in care of the monitor and required activity documentation.
- Prepares skin and attaches leads. Provides hook-up and scans 24 and 48 hours holter monitor after completion of study. Instructs and educates patients about the importance of completing the diary of any palpitations during the study and reports the findings to MD
- Performs cardiac exercise stress testing and nuclear cardiology stress testing under physician supervision.
- Orients patient to procedure, takes patient history, prepares skin and attaches leads and monitors the entire procedure with the nurse and MD. Documents any significant patient complaints during the procedure (including pain).
- Records baseline ECGs, BPs, and monitors patients under the supervision of the responsible physician.
- Prepares patients for stress echocardiography procedures. Prepares skin and attaches leads. Records baseline ECGs.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Prior education through a training school for Cardiographic Technicians is preferred.
- Must have a current CPR card.
- Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT)
