Position Purpose:

The Clinical Nurse Manager provides clinical leadership to a defined unit(s) and has 24-hour accountability for the unit(s); serves as a role model for professional practice and act as a clinical resource. Must be able to understand and implement accreditation standards and be accountable for the quality of the department.

As a Clinical Nurse Manager within Sinai Chicago, you will manage the daily operations of the clinical unit. The Manager partners with key leaders across Sinai Health Systems various departments in decision-making and ensures a bidirectional flow of information. The Manager promotes excellence in all areas and serves as the champion for continued process improvement work. The Manager will focus on the patient and visitor experience, quality and safety, coordination of care across the continuum, use of technological tools and solutions including EMR, metric reporting, customer service, and oversees the budget and financial performance. Ensure provision of quality patient care while maintaining cost-effective clinical operations in accordance with all legal, compliance, and regulatory requirements and programs.

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to: Clinically and administratively to the Director of IP nursing

Provides Supervision to: All unit Caregivers as assigned including RNs, CNAs, USs

Key Job Activities:

  • Oversees and promotes safe, quality driven nursing care of patients while serving as a clinical resource.
  • Develops and maintains written, evidence-based policies and procedures to guide clinical practice in collaboration with the System Director and Nursing Education
  • Assesses and facilitates patient/caregiver interaction and relationships.
  • Engages in joint collaborative practice with physicians and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Participates in the interview and hiring process of qualified candidates for employment.
  • Ensures caregiver education needs are met in collaboration with Nursing Education and unit specific standards.
  • Serves as a role model and mentor for all caregivers in the area of professionalism and clinical practice.
  • Participates and monitors corrective action as needed for performance below standards in collaboration with nursing leadership and human resources.
  • Completes/ensures completion of annual performance appraisals
  • Participates in the development of unit goals with the System Director and staff. Monitors progress towards identified goals, and implements change processes required to meet identified goals.
  • Works collaboratively with the System Director in developing the annual budget as well as reviewing and reporting on the monthly financial and FTE variances.
  • Exercises and promotes fiscal responsibility and provides oversight in unit activities.
  • Monitors attendance patterns in accordance with the standards of Sinai Health System time and attendance policy.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and assures caregiver compliance with regulatory standards and maintains survey readiness.
  • Facilitates and supports open communication with caregivers through ongoing verbal and written communication.
  • Demonstrates the ability to develop and facilitate formal unit meetings and shift huddles.
  • Demonstrates the ability to facilitate effective communication with the Director.
  • Demonstrates 24/7 accountability and accessibility for clinical, administrative and leadership support of the unit(s).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Two (2) years' experience in a Clinical Nursing leadership position.
  • Bachelors preferred

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Illinois or new graduate from an accredited School of Nursing with license pending in State of Illinois.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support: Healthcare Providers, Level C

Category 3 - Job does not involve exposure to blood, body fluids, non-intact skin or tissue specimens. Incumbent does not perform or help in emergency medical care or first aid as a part of his/her job.

Registry (per diem) Caregivers are caregivers who work less than 1,000 hours in a calendar year. Registry caregivers are employees of Sinai Health System but are typically on an as needed basis. These caregivers may be called upon to cover full-time or part-time caregivers during PTO events or sick leave as well as to provide supplemental coverage. Registry Caregivers are not eligible for Sinai's benefit programs with the exception for Sick-C, PPO Medical Plan, Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and non-match eligible contribution to the Sinai Health System Consolidated 403(b) retirement savings plan.
