The Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of Summers Rubber, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial statements, implementing internal controls, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and assisting with financial decision-making within Summers Rubber. This role will also be responsible for implementing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures, supporting budgeting and forecasting processes, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

The Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of Summers Rubber, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial statements, implementing internal controls, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and assisting with financial decision-making within Summers Rubber. This role will also be responsible for implementing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures, supporting budgeting and forecasting processes, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Manage the financial reporting of multiple business units located across the country.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial data entered into the general ledger.
- Oversee the preparation and posting of monthly journal entries.
- Prepare financial statements (e.g., balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement) on a regular basis or as needed for management and stakeholders.
- Analyze financial statements to identify trends, variances, and potential areas for improvement.
- Manage monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts.
- Implement internal controls.
- Assist in the development of annual budgets and forecasts based on historical financial data and future financial projections.
- Monitor actual financial performance against budgets and forecasts, providing explanations for variances.
- Assist in internal and external audits by providing necessary financial information, documentation, and explanations to auditors.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, policies, and procedures.
- Manage the accounts payable process, including entering vouchers and making payments via ACH and Check.
- Conduct financial analysis to support strategic decision-making, cost reduction initiatives, and investment opportunities.
- Provide recommendations based on financial analysis to improve financial performance and efficiency.
- Train staff on the proper use of accounting software and processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather financial data, discuss financial performance, and align financial goals with organizational objectives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Proficiency in GAAP, MS Office, and accounting software
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, taxation, and auditing
- Proficient in using accounting software and financial management systems
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables / V lookups)
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy in financial recordkeeping and reporting

- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- Minimum 7 years’ Accounting experience, preferably with multiple Business Units
- Prior Controller experience preferred
- Must have kept a set of books and records
- Previous experience as a stand-alone Controller for >$10M business
- Experience with Epicor Prophet21 a plus
- Professional certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) is preferred
- Current permanent U.S. work authorization required – no sponsorship
