Position
Overview:
The Interventional
Radiology/Cardiology Technologist assists in all Cardiac Cath lab procedures
and provides for the comfort and well-being of the patient. The Technologist works under the general
supervision of the Cardiac Cath Lab Team Leader and the physicians
(cardiologist, surgeon, radiologist, or pulmonologist) for professional or
technical matters. He/She prepares and operates fluoro/recording equipment to
produce specialized fluoro studies of the coronary and peripheral vascular
systems for the purpose of diagnosis and/or treatment of anatomic and
physiologic disorders. The Interventional
Radiology/Cardiology Technologist ensures accuracy and realizes errors in
asepsis procedures could result in injury to the patient; and, improper
calibrations or faulty maintenance and operation of equipment could result in
a life threatening situation.

RTs - Must
be a graduate from an
accredited, state approved, School of Radiologic Technology.
RCIS – Must be credentialed by the Cardiovascular Credentialing
International (CCI), which has been recognized as the CCL/ICL credential of
choice by the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the Society of Cardiac
Angiography and Interventions (SCAI.)
License:
RTs - Must be currently licensed as Radiologic Technologist by ARRT. Must maintain a minimum of 24 Continuing Education credits in
each two (2) year period as required by ARRT in Radiology. Special Procedures Registry preferred.
RTs- Must be licensed
by the Mississippi State Department of Health.
OR
RCIS - Must be credentialed by the Cardiovascular Credentialing
International (CCI)
Certifications:
Must complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
Must
complete ACLS certification within six (6) months of start date; must maintain
current ACLS certification.
A minimum of six (6) months’ experience in
Special Procedures and Cardiac Cath required.

Physical Demands:
Work is moderately active: involves sitting with frequent
requirements to move about the office, move about the facility, and to
travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. Work involves exerting a negligible
amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move
objects, including the human body.Employee is responsible for safely moving, lifting and handling all
supplies, equipment and patients. Safe lifting practice is expected in all
areas of job performance and employees are responsible to request help
whenever needed, regardless of the weight, using available assistance, i.e.
lifting devices or additional staff. The employee is subjected to
long periods of exposure to ionized radiation, but is carefully supervised
to prevent undue exposure.
Must be able to be active and stand for extended periods
of time wearing lead aprons and walk about the procedural area without
experiencing undue fatigue; must be able to see and function under low
lighting conditions and hear above excessive equipment noise. Must be
able to work schedules assigned with the understanding that changes may be
instituted according to the needs of the hospital for off days, shifts or
weekends
Work involves using many physical motions in performing daily
work activities; subject to exposure of body fluids, sputum and tissues,
which may carry the hazard of infectious disease. Work involves using repetitive motions:
substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and or fingers while operating
standard office equipment such as computer keyboard.
Work involves being able to perceive the nature of sound at
normal speaking levels with or without correction; the ability to make fine
discriminations in sound. Work requires close visual and acuity and the
ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, i.e. shift
gaze from viewing a computer monitor to forms/printed material that are
closer to compare data at close vision.

Must
demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making
abilities. Must demonstrate superior
communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information
in person and by telephone. Must
demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. Must possess emotional stability
conducive to dealing with high stress levels. Must demonstrate ability to work under
pressure and meet deadlines.
Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex
situations is required. Must have the ability to maintain
collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.
Must possess the ability
to function in a clinical
capacity and possess skills to perform functions and duties as required by
the specialty area and understand that errors and poor image quality may
have serious consequences for patients.Must demonstrate supervisory skills and knowledge for supervision of
other disciplines working on the same team. Must possess skills to problem solve
patient care issues and/or technical issues with physicians. Must demonstrates appropriate clinical
judgment and apply professional skills to a patient population of all ages.
Must
possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette. Must possess proficient knowledge and
ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office
technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word. Must possess ability to help ensure the department meets accreditation standards. Job requires traveling throughout the SRHS service
area ‐with the employee providing his/her own transportation. Must have
a valid driver license. Job requires out of state travel for education purposes. Must participate in an ‘on-call’ rotation,
including weekends. Must be
available and report to the unit in need of service.
