Position Overview:
The Women’s and Children’s Quality Navigator/Educator works collaboratively to coordinate the care for patients, adult, and newborn seen within the Maternal/Child department.
The Women’s and Children’s Quality Navigator/Educator enhances the performance and professional development of healthcare providers and their continuing competencies. He/She develops and coordinates educational programs and materials specific for nursing and patient care service areas. The Quality Navigator/Educator communicates routinely with Singing River Health System departments conducting follow- up screening to ensure hearing screens and follow-up labs are completed. He/She collects, analyzes, and prioritizes comprehensive patient health data pertinent to the patient’s health and/or condition in conjunction with state and federally mandated programs such as AIM, MOMS, and Baby Friendly to name a few, as well as analyzes the assessment data to determine the diagnoses and/or issues; includes patient, family, and other healthcare providers in the process.  He/She drives the plan of care to and patient care progression specific to the patient needs to meet and maintain the required these managers.  Additionally, he/she facilitates the development of clinical excellence in assigned areas through active participation in orientation, training, on-going staff development and evaluation of clinical practice for all levels of personnel served. The Quality Navigator/Educator participates in the development of formal and informal education programs and activities in an effort to improve quality standards and outcomes as well as staff performance expectations. He/She serves as a resource and educator on new policies, procedures, equipment, and healthcare information. The Quality Navigator/Educator keeps abreast of current research in nursing practice and care delivery and facilitates the implementation of Evidence Based Practice initiatives. The Quality Navigator/Educator adjusts working hours and availability as needed or as assigned (evenings/nights/weekends) to meet the educational needs of the staff. The Quality Navigator/Educator performs utilizing the ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice for Nursing Professional Development, the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, the Accreditation Agency Standards, National Evidence Based Standards, the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control and the SRHS Department of Nursing Plan for the Provision of Care, Treatment and Services.

Education:
Graduate from NLN School of Nursing required.  Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.

License:
Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Mississippi.

Certifications:
Required to complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.

Must complete and maintain NRP certification by the end of position orientation (90 days).

Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de-escalation training.  

Experience:
Five (5) years’ clinical nursing experience appropriate for area of specialty required. Previous teaching experience or evidence of teaching ability preferred. Experience in maternal/child patient navigation preferred.

The Nurse Managers of Women’s and Children’s

Physical Demands:
Work is moderately active: involves sitting with frequent requirements to move about the office, move about the facility, and to travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. Work involves exerting a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Work involves using many physical motions in performing daily work activities; subject to exposure of body fluids, sputum and tissues, which may carry the hazard of infectious disease. Work involves using repetitive motions: substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and or fingers while operating standard office equipment such as computer keyboard.

Work involves being able to perceive the nature of sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction; the ability to make fine discriminations in sound. Work requires close visual and acuity and the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, i.e. shift gaze from viewing a computer monitor to forms/printed material that are closer to compare data at close vision.

Must be able to be active for extended periods of time without experiencing undue fatigue. Must be able to work schedules assigned with the understanding that changes may be instituted according to the needs of the hospital for off days, shifts or weekends.

Mental Demands:
Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities.  Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone.  Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.  Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels.  Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required.  Must have the ability to maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.

Special Demands:
Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.  Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word.

Must be able to demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply appropriate professional skills to a patient population of all ages.

Job may require traveling throughout the SRHS service area, using his/her own transportation.
