EmpowerME Preschool & Childcare, a program of Single Mom Strong, is seeking a teacher's Aide. We are a local nonprofit organization working to address the lack of affordable, quality childcare options for single parents. Our mission is to empower single mothers and their children through enrichment, encouragement and educational programs. Our EmpowerME program is an extension of that mission and is an outstanding resource to the community, addressing many of single parent’s challenges, and provides the “village” it takes to raise a child.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists with toilet training and/or bathroom time
- Assists with meal/snack preparation
- Assists with implementing activities from lesson plan
- Assists with maintaining a safe, clean and organized classroom
- Treats children with dignity and respect
- Participates in the cleaning of the facility and preparation of future activities.
- Maintains appropriate communication with the Director as to parental, student or teacher concerns.
- Communicates to parents in a positive, empathetic manner concerning children or school issues.
- Maintains confidentiality in regards to staff, children and families.
- Recognizes the social/emotional, developmental and educational needs of each child.
- Presents material in an enthusiastic and positive manner to encourage a “can do” attitude among children
- Maintains a respectful relationship with children, parents and staff
- Reports safety, maintenance or classroom issues to the Director and Teacher immediately
- Administers First Aid, if necessary.
- Attends school conferences and special events, including parent conferences, staff meetings, open house and trainings as requested
- Demonstrates dedication to continuing education and attending professional growth opportunities
Minimum Qualifications:
An aide assisting a fully qualified teacher in the supervision of up to 15 preschool-age children shall meet the following requirements:
- High school graduate
- -or-
- Currently participating in an occupational program conducted by an accredited high school or college.
An aide assisting a fully qualified teacher in the supervision of up to 18 preschool-age children shall meet the following requirements:
- Hold a Child Development Assistant Permit issued by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing
- -or-
- High School graduate; Completion of six postsecondary semester or equivalent quarter units in early childhood education or related field **
- -or-
- Completion of at least two postsecondary semester units or equivalent quarter units in early childhood education or related field each semester or quarter following initial employment and continuation in the educational program each semester or quarter until six units have been completed
Other Requirements:
- Certification and Possession of valid Child/ Pediatric CPR and First Aid (EMSA certified)
- Completion of Health Screening (LIC503) and TB Clearance
- Criminal Record Clearance, including Child Abuse Index
- Completion of Mandated Reporter Training (AB1207)
- Current Immunization Records: MMR, Tdap and Flu
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated experience working with children in some capacity
- Must be computer literate with a basic understanding of Microsoft Office and internet
- The ability to observe, see, hear and respond to children’s needs, emergencies and conflicts that may occur.
- The ability to work with a diverse population.
- The ability to bend, stoop and lift children up to 100 pounds. Reasonable accommodations will be made for qualified candidates who can not meet this requirement.

Pay: $16.00 - $18.25 per hour
