COUNSEL
JOB DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Settlement Attorney/Counsel to join our dynamic legal team. This position will play a critical role in managing the settlement process after agreements have been reached across all practice areas within the firm. This individual will be responsible for drafting and reviewing settlement agreements, addressing Minor's Compromise issues, lien issues, and ensuring the seamless execution of settlement terms. The ideal candidate possesses exceptional legal acumen, meticulous attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of post-settlement procedures.
This will be a hybrid role based in our San Diego office.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
$160,000-$200,000 annually
Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare, review, and finalize settlement agreements, releases, and related legal documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable laws and firm standards.
- Manage the implementation of settlement terms, including the disbursement of funds, compliance with deadlines, and fulfillment of contractual obligations.
- Oversee settlements involving minors by ensuring compliance with legal requirements, obtaining necessary court approvals, and coordinating with guardians or custodians to facilitate the settlement process.
- Manage lien issues, including overseeing team negotiating with lienholders, and ensuring proper documentation and payment in accordance with settlement agreements.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with clients regarding settlement procedures, progress, and any post-settlement requirements, ensuring transparency and trust.
- Work closely with litigation teams, paralegals, financial departments, and support staff to gather necessary information and facilitate the settlement process.
- Ensure all settlement activities adhere to relevant federal and state laws, ethical standards, and firm policies.
- Maintain organized and accurate records of all settlement documents, correspondence, and related materials for future reference and compliance purposes.
- Identify opportunities to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the settlement process and implement best practices accordingly.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in California.
- 10-15 years of experience in civil litigation.
- Strong drafting and document review capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
- Comprehensive understanding of post-settlement procedures.
- Proficient in legal research and analysis.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- High ethical standards and professionalism.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
