Position Highlights
Summary
- The Activity Assistant is responsible for carrying out the social activities program to meet the needs, abilities, personal enjoyment, and benefit of the individual resident/tenant/patient.
General Hours of Work
- Monday – Friday with weekend and holiday rotation
Education and/or Experience
- Prefer high school education or GED; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ongoing education as required by Sioux Center Health. Attends 12 hours of in-service training yearly and work 1 8 hour shift every 2 years in LTC to keep CNA certification current.
Certificate, Licenses, Registrations
- Certified Nurse Aide Certification required within 6 months of hire (to be enrolled in an approved course by 3 months of hire). Must obtain CPR certification within 3 months of hire date. ServSafe certified. Must have or will be required to obtain, at a minimum, a Class D Chauffer Endorsement 3 driver’s license and must carry their own automobile liability insurance.
Essential Functions
- Assists in the implementation of the treatment plan set up by manager.
- Participates in carrying out the resident/tenant/patient care plan in relation to the resident/tenant/patient’s activities need involving planning, coordination, and participation in activities such as church and devotional services, birthday and other types of parties, group exercise, movies, bingo, special outings and other activities.
- Transports patient/resident/tenants to/from department in preparation for activities.
- Contact and make arrangements with participating individuals for necessary supplies, room preparation, setting up and operating equipment.
- Provides individual activities such as exercise, discussion of current events, reminiscing, and handiwork: and assures that reading material, music, and craft supplies are provided for patient/resident/tenant activities.
- Document individual patient/resident/tenant activities, noting changes, and assist in the coordination of the patient/resident/tenants’ council in directing the topics of discussion and promoting patient/resident/tenant participation and understanding.
- Assists manager in completing activity assessment for each patient/resident/tenant to determine his/her activity needs and interest, and in the development of a corresponding activity plan.
- Performs safety and infection control procedures to ensure a safe and clean environment for the patient/resident/tenants and staff.
- Completes assigned daily cleaning schedule within department including, but not limited to individual work area, other equipment used, and storage areas in accordance with set department standards.
- Assists with meal set up and serving.
- Assures that all patient/resident/tenants are provided meals (either in their room or through the dining room) that receive meal service.
- Assists in cleaning all community areas: elevator, restrooms, offices, hallways, etc.
- Provides assistance for patient/resident/tenants as needed or requested for daily living, including, but not limited to, transfers, general housekeeping, laundry services, personal care, and available to take vital signs.
- Responsible for the general operation of the dish room and serving areas including, but not limited to: preparation of all foods; obtains, inventories and services hot and cold foods and replenishes hot and cold foods.
- Records temperatures of hot foods, refrigerators and freezers.
- Assists with the collection and maintenance of other records as needed by the Quality Assurance Department, OSHA guidelines or as may be required by law.
- Responsible for the cleaning and storage of various cafeteria items including, but not limited to dishes, flatware, utensils, and pans.
- Assists with catering functions to include assembly, set-up, delivery and retrieving of necessary items.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
