REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION LEVEL:
Associates Degree from completion of an approved SLPA two-year program which prepares a student to obtain Licensure as an SLPA through the South Dakota Board of Examiners.
EXPERIENCE DESIRED:
Successful completion of at least one hundred (100) hours of supervised fieldwork experiences.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Constant hand-eye/mind-eye coordination, hearing; intermittent keyboarding, use of wrists, hands, fingers, speaking, typing and writing. Frequent filing, sitting, standing and walking
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
South Dakota SLPA Licensure

Employment Contract - 9 Month | Level E

Pay Day: Last working day of each month.
HOURS & FTE
Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm with a 30 minute unpaid lunch
1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week, 9 months

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES
- Assists the SLP with speech and language screenings and assessments.
- Implement Individual Education Plan goals and interventions developed by the SLP.
- Document student performance on records, charts, or graphs and report this information to the SLP.
- Assist with clerical duties such as preparing materials, programming augmentative communication devices, and scheduling students.
- Perform checks and maintenance of equipment.
- Support the SLP in data collection and in-service training.
- Adhere to responsibilities of SLPAs and refrain from performing tasks that are the responsibility of the SLP.
Responsibilities Outside the Scope of Practice
- Perform standardized or non-standardized diagnostic tests.
- Participate in IEP meetings without the presence of the supervising SLP or other designated SLP.
- Provide interpretative information to the student, family or others regarding the student's progress.
- Write, develop, or modify a student's IEP in any way.
- Sign any IEP documents; the SLPA should sign any informal treatment notes for review and co-sign with the supervising SLP as requested.
