Interpreter - Somali (Part-Time)
This is a part-time position, working Monday through Friday from 8am to noon at our South Sioux City, NE location.
Required Skills
- Bilingual communication skills in Somali and English (verbal, reading, and writing)
- Basic computer and data entry skills
- Knowledge of cultural barriers to medical care and ability to overcome them for patients and SCHC
- Understanding of medical terminology in Somali and English
- High school diploma or GED
- Prior interpreting experience is preferred
Job Responsibilities
- Provide translation services to non-English speaking patients and their families during clinical visits
- Work with medical staff to ensure accurate communication and understanding between patient and staff
- Assist patients in completing intake forms, including demographic and medical history, and financial verification
- Support social service worker and patient in completing the social service intake process
- Travel to local agencies or hospitals to provide interpreting services as needed
