Logistics Specialist

The Logistics Specialist is responsible for managing the movement of goods from the warehouse to customers or other destinations, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery. The role involves coordinating shipments, preparing shipping documentation, monitoring inventory levels, and working closely with the Logistics Manager and Customer Service to ensure customer demands and company objectives are met. The Logistics Specialist also ensures compliance with all shipping regulations and company policies. This position will be located at the Shubuta, MS., Warehouse facility.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate Shipments: Schedule and coordinate shipments with docks to ensure timely delivery of products to customers or distributors. This includes monitoring freight movements from docks and notifying customer service of any issues that need to be addressed.
- Prepare Shipping Documentation: Generate and verify all necessary shipping paperwork, including bills of lading, shipping labels, packing slips, and export documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations.
- Inventory Management: Work closely with warehouse and inventory teams to ensure products are correctly picked, packed, and shipped, maintaining accurate inventory records. This includes cycle counting (weekly) and reporting customer inventory levels when requested.
- Carrier Communication: Communicate with freight carriers and logistics providers to resolve pickup or delivery issues and confirm pickup and delivery times. Customer service will need to be included in all communication pertaining to orders.
- Customer Service Communication: Act as a liaison between the warehouse and customer service to provide shipping updates, resolve shipping-related issues, and address any concerns regarding delivery times, damages, or returns.
- Maintain Compliance: Ensure that all shipping activities comply with regulatory requirements, such as customs regulations, hazardous materials handling, and international shipping laws.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other departments such as sales, customer service, and inventory management to ensure smooth order fulfillment and resolve any issues related to product availability or shipping. This includes scanning documents for customers (shipments/receipts). Customer service will be required to be included in all communication.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve shipping processes, reduce delays, and enhance operational efficiency.
- Data Entry: Must be capable of making JDE entries for this location. This will include all vendor receipts, customer shipments, and/or transfers between Shubuta MS and Waynesboro MS.
- Warehouse: You must be able to maintain a clean and organized warehouse environment. Make sure things are labeled and placed in the correct customer area.
- Other duties: This will be determined by daily needs. Your manager will advise on daily needs that pertain to the Shubuta warehouse.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, business, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: 2-4 years of experience in shipping, logistics, or supply chain coordination. Experience in a fast-paced warehouse or distribution environment is a plus.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in shipping and logistics software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, UPS/FedEx tools) and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy when handling shipping paperwork, inventory, and shipment tracking.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with carriers, customers, and internal teams.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve shipping issues, including delays, incorrect shipments, or inventory discrepancies.
- Customer Service: Strong customer service orientation with the ability to manage customer expectations and resolve issues professionally.
- Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with warehouse, sales, and customer service teams.
- Knowledge of Shipping Regulations: Understanding of domestic and international shipping regulations, including customs and import/export procedures, is an advantage.

- Physical Requirements: Ability to occasionally lift and carry packages up to 50 lbs. and to work in a warehouse or shipping environment.

- Forklift certified
