Job description
Sipe's Orchard Home has provided services for children and youth for 80 years. The Huckleberry Summer Camp is a safe, fun, educational and electronics-free day camp for children who have completed kindergarten up to 12 years old. We operate Monday to Friday from May 27, 2025 to August 15, 2025. The camp is closed July 4th. The Group Leader works in the Huckleberry Summer Camp and provides daily instruction and supervision to the children under the direction of the camp Director.
Group Leader responsibilities:
- Follows the weekly lesson plans and participates in any field trips.
- Maintains constant supervision of children in all settings.
- Maintains a safe and healthy environment, including cleaning of work areas and children’s restrooms.
- Models good behavior and uses behavior management techniques.
- Informs the Director of any difficulties that may arise during the day.
- Facilitates medication administration and updates medication logs.
- Maintains daily attendance.
- Develops and maintains good relationships and open communication with parents or legal guardians, the camp Director, and other staff members.
- Cooperates with the camp Director and other staff members regarding program activities, operations, and decisions.
- Communicates any concerns or problems that may occur with children, families, employees, equipment, and facilities.
- Attends trainings and meetings as required.
- Participates in annual required CACFP trainings.
- Follows the meal pattern guidelines for all meals served.
- Fills in the meal count sheet as each complete meal with all components are served (required by CACFP).
- The above list is not all-inclusive. Other responsibilities may become necessary in the course of working routines and therefore be required.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Valid NC Driver’s License and must be at least 18 years of age.
- If a job offer is made, the candidate must pass pre-employment drug screen, physical, criminal background checks, and obtain a NCDHHS Qualifying Letter.
Schedule:
- The schedule requires 40 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday. However, there may be instances when child care related activities or meetings occur that interfere with a regular schedule. This position is nonexempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act.
