To help continue to meet our growing needs, we are seeking a skilled and professional Lead Diesel Mechanic. As a Lead Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for coordinating, scheduling, auditing of maintenance and preventive repairs for the fleet. You will also assist in performing routine and specialized mechanical duties, including troubleshooting, repairing and preventive maintenance in all fleet vehicles/equipment. It requires keeping records of work performed and keeping a clean and safe work area.
Responsibilities:
- This position is a hands-on experience. You will be expected to work alongside your team in the performance of your duties to ensure that timelines are met, and quality repairs take place.
- Responsible for the coordination, scheduling, and auditing of maintenance workload for Fleet team.
- Assist and perform specialized mechanical repairs, diagnoses, and troubleshooting, electrical repairs, brake systems, hydraulic systems, diesel/gas engines on all vehicles/equipment, when necessary.
- Provide leadership, management, and technical support for all maintenance activities.
- Ensures that mechanics are trained on current operating procedures, are properly equipped, and are motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner.
- Perform daily quality checks on work performed and ensure proper close outs.
- Communicates between the shop, and Operations/Fleet Manager/Crews.
- Builds a culture of mutual respect, and teamwork, demonstrating active support for the Company's culture, policies, and procedures.
- Ensures all field maintenance failures are addressed in a timely manner.
- Holds on-call responsibility, on rotation and when required.
- Ensures the working environment is clean throughout the shift; all areas must be clean/neat before Fleet team members go home.
- Assist Fleet manager in ordering and approving parts and repairs within a certain cost threshold utilizing sound judgement.
- Provides process/procedure improvements and dispositions recommendations to Fleet Manager and Branch Manager.
Qualifications:
- 5 years of proven hands-on management experience leading a team of mechanic staff performing in-house maintenance mechanics in a facility/shop environment and mobile setting.
- 5 years of proven experience, and high-level knowledge of categories listed; diagnostic, troubleshooting, electrical, brake systems, hydraulic systems, welding, diesel/gas engines.
- Required computer skills to manage Fleet system (prior experience preferred).
- Required medium duty to heavy-duty mechanic tools (or to obtain).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multi-task and work under time restraints.
- Ability to plan, organize and execute maintenance tasks utilizing internal resources.
- Must be able to read and comprehend various measuring devices, repair manual and online specifications.
- Ability to effectively communicate within the company and cross functionally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally.
- Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and state/local Department of Transportation rules/regulations.
- Valid driver's license; CDL preferred (must be willing/able to obtain CDL)
