What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sign Language Interpreter position at Siskiyou County Office of Education?
The Educational Sign Language Interpreter provides interpreting and other support services to students with hearing impairments who, to the extent possible, are mainstreamed in regular school classes. The Educational Sign Language Interpreter’s primary function is to facilitate communication between students with hearing impairments and their hearing peers, the classroom teacher and other personnel in the school system. Other duties that may be performed when not required to provide interpreting may include tutoring, note taking, participation in meetings as a member of the education team and other duties to support the education environment. Located in Yreka, California, the Siskiyou County Office of Education provides direct educational programs for a specific student population and financial oversight of budgets of school districts in Siskiyou County. We provide many services including essential student programs and specialized resources to schools on a countywide basis. We work in partnership with other educational, governmental, and community agencies to bring needed grants and other resources to the students in Siskiyou County.
