JOB TITLE: School Psychologist

 

WORKS WITH: Classroom paraprofessionals, administrators, general education and special education teachers, classified staff, parents, community members

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess South Dakota Certification as a School Psychologist. The school psychologist must possess knowledge of the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of children and basic understanding of the fundamental methods, techniques, and procedures involved in the educational process. School Psychologist Interns may be considered.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Hand-eye, mind-eye coordination. Constant hearing; intermittent speaking, standing, walking, and writing. Frequent carrying, keyboarding, and other repetitive motions.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Skills in human relations, leadership and conflict management. Knowledgeable of teaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students. Demonstrated skills in the use of technology and data-driven instruction to enhance student learning.

 

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services

 

JOB SUMMARY: To provide psychological and other services required to assess student abilities, skills, and needs, as they relate to special education eligibility and/or program development.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
1) Collaborates and consults effectively with school staff and parents. May include, but not exclusive to, attending or leading staff development activities.

2) Demonstrates ability to integrate, synthesize, and interpret data from standardized and non-standardized sources.

3) Uses a systematic problem-solving process when assessing student needs and developing appropriate educational plans, including educational and behavioral interventions.

4) Exhibits effective communication when working with school staff, students, and parents.

5) Is knowledgeable and uses empirically sound methods and assessments when gathering information for the evaluation of student abilities, skills, and needs in accordance with special education procedure and policies.

6) Assists in identifying individual needs and makes placement recommendations of students following the state special education criteria and federal guidelines.

7) Participates in eligibility and IEP meetings as needed to meet the needs of identified students.

8) Collaborates with school staff, other specialists, and community resources to meet the needs of students.

9) Maintains student records in accordance with district, state, and federal policies and regulations.

10) Practices all ethical and legal standards of the school psychology profession.

11) Reports abuse to appropriate agencies as per local, state, and federal policies and procedures.

12) Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

13) Perform other duties as assigned.

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be determined in accordance with the evaluation policy and procedures of the board of education.
