Position Title: Personal Support Assistant
Reports To: H & W Designated LCC
General Summary: Provides safe transportation, shopping, and other supportive services for the Sisters of Mercy. This includes transporting residents to and from Doctor’s appointment, treatment appointments, visits, shopping and other errands, as requested. Also provides pick-up and delivery services as requested. Performs daily maintenance; gas and window-washer fill-ups. Demonstrates respectful treatment of the dignity, privacy, and individuality of Sisters and co-workers.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Transports residents in a car according to the needs of the residents. May accompany the residents to an appointment and, when necessary, helps with registration. The driver is expected to stand by for assistance when needed.
2. Consults with nursing services or Sister, as appropriate for pertinent information and instructions regarding the residents’ needs while traveling to and from an appointment.
3. Receives schedule of assignments from Supervisor. Performs daily maintenance, i.e., filling gas and window-washer fluid.
4. Shops for items as needed by food service, nursing, etc.
5. Reports any car problems to Supervisor.
6. Promptly reports any incidents/accidents with the passenger or the vehicle to the Supervisor and Administrator.
7. Participates in department and all-staff meetings as requested.*
8. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.*
9. Incorporates an understanding of the Mercy mission and values into work performance.
*These tasks do not meet the Americans With Disabilities Act definition of essential job functions and are usually less than 5% of time spent. However, these tasks still constitute important performance aspects of the job.
Position Qualifications:
- High School diploma required.
- Certificated Nursing Assistant OR two years of direct care experience with elders.
- College degree preferred
- Proficiency with MS Office programs and windows operating system. Excel proficiency is required.
- Must be able to work 40 hours per week with the ability to work flexible hours and provide coverage as needed.
- Able to demonstrate a commitment to the Mission and Values of the Sisters of Mercy.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision, and be a functional team member.
- Demonstrates ability to maintain clear communication with sisters, public and co-workers.
- Demonstrates ability to organize related duties, take initiative, work independently and give attention to detail.
- Must possess a valid State Driver's License without any moving violations.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a variety of individuals with limited abilities.
- Demonstrates excellent patient transfer skills as well as familiarity with usage of medical equipment such as wheel chairs and walkers.

- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Ability to use and push a wheelchair with person weighing up to 200 lbs. on both level and incline walkways.
- Ability to assist a Resident with walking, or with the use of a walker.
- Travel may be of short duration or may be several hours.
- Freedom from use of illegal drugs and freedom from use and effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.
- Successful completion of pre-employment requirements, background check and driving record.
Visual/Audible Acuity Requirements
- Must be able to read and distinguish small print.
- Must have depth perception and be able to distinguish basic colors.
- Must be able to distinguish normal sounds with some background noise.
- Must be able to speak clearly and make self understood while also understanding others using the English language.
- Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
MUST SHOW PROOF OF BEING FULLY VACCINATED AGAINST COVID-19.

Mostly Day Shift hours. Shifts may vary.
The position will have an office at the Omaha Administrative loacated at 7262 Mercy Rd, Omaha, NE 68124, but most of the work will be done with Sisters residing at a non-owned facility approximately 7 miles from the Admin Office. The person in this position will be 'on the road' a lot, taking Sisters to appointments, purchasing supplies, etc. for these Sisters.
