DESCRIPTION: The Dietary Aide is responsible for performing a variety of unskilled duties to assist in all dietary functions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Handles and prepares food in accordance with sanitary regulations.
• Assists with pre-prep when necessary.
• Avoids food wastes.
• Maintains a steady work pace to meet meal schedules.
• Keeps work area clean.
• Tends to the loading and unloading dish machine and washes, sanitizes and stores pots, pans and dishes according to department procedure.
• Cleans floors as directed and washes and resets tables.
• Assists with unloading and care for stock in the storeroom and other areas.
• Demonstrates safety rules in the kitchen and other areas; including correctly operating food service equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Displays ability to set up food for all types of regular and modified diets.
• Displays ability to operate a dish machine and knowledge how to clean surfaces and various materials.
• Displays ability to read, write, speak clearly and follow simple oral and written directions.
• Displays ability to follow job sequence and be attentive to details.
• Displays ability to work as a team or independently.
• Displays ability to balance job duties with varying degrees of interruptions.
• Responds to all persons in a courteous, patient and caring manner, respecting the dignity of each person.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working in food service desirable.
• Experience working within a geriatric’s facility preferred.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to push, pull and lift objects weighing 50 pounds.
• Ability to bend, stoop, squat and stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to move chairs and lightweight tables, to bus carts of dishware, tables and load and unload the dishwasher.
• The Dietary department can, at times, be noisy and extremes in temperature can be experienced.
• Exposure to cleaning chemicals and detergents.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, weekends and holidays.
