Summary
Responsible for the professional and efficient operation of the health facility of the Sisters of Saint Joseph and for fostering the life and spirit of the congregation. This position oversees the nursing department essential in overseeing the daily care and support of our elder Sisters’ . The major goal of SSJ is to offer quality person centered holistic health care in an atmosphere characteristic of our congregation.
Primary duties include but not limited to:
- Works with team members to create and sustain the Person Centered Care model.
- Plans, organizes and directs effective administration of nursing unit and Sister’s care based upon established goals, objectives, standards and SSJ procedures.
- Affirms and fosters the Mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph in the environment of Marycrest. Assumes leadership and 24 hour accountability of the nursing department.
- Renders direct assistance to the nurse and Sister whenever the Sister’s acuity level requires this level of intervention. Assumes the scheduled charge nurse duties as needed.
- Works with Director of Finance to prepare and maintain annual Marycrest Nursing budget. Reviews and authorizes nursing employee hours for payroll each pay period.
- Maintains current knowledge of rules and regulations as they pertain to the Pennsylvania state educational requirements for the RN, LPN, and CNA and follows up as needed with employees.
- In conjunction with the Human Resources Department, directs the interviewing, hiring, discipline and dismissal of nursing personnel following established policies as outlined in the SSJ Employee Handbook.
- Works with Human Resources to update nursing job descriptions, SSJ Bloodborne Pathogen and Hazard Communication Programs on an annual basis.22. Participates in employee incident and post exposure investigation and documentation as required by OSHA.

Education and/or Experience – Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program with a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Nursing preferred. Will accept equivalent combination of education and experience. PA Nursing License and CPR Certification required, geriatric experience preferred. Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, organization and customer service skills as well as proven leadership abilities.
