Position Summary: The Nature Educator will work with the Garden Ministry and
Sustainability teams to provide meaningful experiences in the natural world for the community - including children, youth, and families to:
provide experiences in the natural world for children and teens that will promote
health and benefit their social, emotional, physical, cognitive, academic, and
spiritual development.
grow people, beginning in childhood, who love the earth and know how to take
care of the natural world.
grow people, beginning in childhood and focused on the local neighborhood, who
love these Brentwood grounds and who know how to care for this land.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Education or a related field.
Experience working with children - at least 2 years' experience.
Passion for sustainability and love of the natural world and domesticated animals.
Comfort working in the natural environment.
Ability to ensure the safety of the children in his/her care by recognizing possible
risks and making and carrying out a reasonable risk assessment.
Responsibilities:
Continue and expand nature-based programming and outreach to the community
including field trips, after school programs, intergenerational programs, and other
experience-based learning opportunities.
Collaborate with and empower teachers at Shepherd's Gate Preschool to provide
students with hands-on, meaningful experiences in the natural world on a regular
basis and in all weather and educate them about sustainability efforts
occurring on the campus.
Advocate for access to nature education on Long Island by sharing data and
experiences from this position.
Collaborate with the Garden Ministry and Sustainability teams and other
environmental and nature-based educators and become comfortable with the
sustainability efforts on the grounds.
Provide a ministry of presence to all who visit the grounds.
