Georgetown Visitation, founded in 1799, is an all-girls high school rooted in the Roman Catholic faith and Salesian tradition, committed to educating young women from diverse backgrounds. Visitation is currently inviting applications for a full-time, 11-month College Counselor. The College Counselor reports to the Director of College Counseling and is an integral part of a four-person team offering a comprehensive program that includes academic support.[CH1] The Visitation college counseling curriculum comprises group events, the junior year college counseling class, and a series of one-on-one conferences.[CH2] The Counselor will manage a caseload of approximately 40 juniors and 40 seniors.
The ideal candidate will possess a broad understanding of current trends and issues in college admissions; a desire to work with a range of talented students as well as parents, faculty, and college admissions officers; and an understanding of standardized testing and secondary school curricula. Superior organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, as well as creativity, good humor, and willingness to counsel a diversely talented group of students through an emotionally charged time in their lives are required. Candidates must be strong writers, good listeners, detail- and deadline-oriented.
Responsibilities:
- Help students prepare their college applications and offer support during the writing process
- Advise students on course selection and its impact on the college selection process
- Write letters of recommendation for assigned students and offer guidance to faculty regarding their written recommendations
- Organize and host student and family events throughout the year
- Maintain and guide students and families on the use of Scoir
- Keep abreast of financial aid issues in the college process
- Establish new and maintain ongoing relationships with college admission officers
- Host college admissions officers and representatives on campus each fall
- Regularly visit college campuses and attend relevant conferences
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Professional experience in college admission and/or college counseling (preferably in a Catholic and/or independent school)
During the academic year, the position requires in-person, full-time work from 7:45am – 3:45pm Monday – Friday and candidates must also be willing to work evenings and weekends for special programming.
Candidates for an Associate Director of College Counseling will be considered provided experience and education meet the requirements listed.

Salary is equal to the school faculty pay schedule based on degrees and years of teaching experience. The range is $90,000-$105,000.
